Comment seen elsewhere suggests that 92214 is imminently due to depart Butterley for a spell on the NYMR.

Just out of interest I have had a quick look at the website for this engine, and as far as I can gather, it would appear to have been returned to steam in July 2003, so is coming up to seven years on its "ticket".
Website hasn't been updated since July 2009, so nothing of immediate interest shown.

"Ticket" years don't mean a whole lot in reality. It's the overall condition of the machine that will concern us.

This is potentially a very exciting visitor, but most of us will just want to wait and see what it's like when it arrives. We've been caught out by too many visiting locos in the past, to be getting too excited just yet. Fingers crossed for this one though.

In fairness Edward, it is not possible to deduce from the website whether or not the engine has had an "intermediate" at say five years. As you say, see what it is like when it arrives and is turned out into service.

    Interesting development though.

..Might even spark interest in a certain "other" 2-10-0.....

Good timing, hopefully this weeks rain will give us a fully operational railway again, I was down this weekend on the Friday and Saturday. Still managed to get the K1 running north above levisham

The plan was to return to "Firecon 1" today (i.e. all steam but with crews exercising caution) based on some heavy rain yesterday and further forecast this week.

Many thanks to both passengers and staff for their forebareance over the weekend.

It's not so much an "intermediate", more the standard of the initial rebuild. I can think of one Black 5 that visited the Moors, where the axleboxes couldn't have been touched since its last BR works overhaul. There is no way that it had done enough miles in preservation, to have got into that state. There's been a couple of "newly overhauled" locos that have fallen to bits on arrival as well, so please excuse the caution!

A 9F is good news, and even if there are a few "teething troubles", worth sorting them in the hope of a long term relationship.

As for a certain other 2 10 0, she should have been into the works before she'd even gone cold from her last turn. It would have been better if jobs on her had been kept on top of, but we really do need to take the plunge, and sort her out. (WD 2 10 0 3672 for the uninitiated). I suspect that those that worked on her are keener to get her back into traffic, than some who may not think she's "sexy" enough for their trainset. She may not be sexy, but she's a heck of a lot more dependable & effective than certain other locos, that have taken up a lot of workshop hours over the last couple of years.

We should not forget the generosity of the late Clifford Brown, who provided Vera & Repton for use on the NYMR either.

Best loco on the line! (Apart from No.s 5 and 29, obviously, but that goes without saying!)

Edward: Your comments about 3672 noted and agreed, but why does the engine stand outside deteriorating ( along with others) in the North Yorks climate? Surely if the NYMR were serious about this useful engine they would at least provide some cover from the elements, maybe with one of those large poly tunnels that can be had to cover rolling stock. Also as I mentioned, maybe one for oil firing for our dry summers! ....Ok, maybe not today....but the NYMR have already had disruption with the recent dry Spring.

when she was at Bury a few years ago she was like a sewing machine and i believe she had a retube towards the end of it's stay. and when it left she had some bottom end work done on her. rumour has it that a certain locomotive owner commented on her condition in a positive manner. she's not done much since. the support crew are all lovely guys and very helpful. gutted she's going to the moors and not coming back to Bury :-(

You're preaching to the converted there!

At the very least, I'd have thought that the cladding should have been removed, and the boiler painted with something appropriate.

Having failed spectacularly to see 92220 at any stage during her stay at NYMR all those years ago, the arrival of another 9F is welcome news indeed. Looking forward to seeing and hearing her have a blast up the 1 in 49.

And Antwerp - as said before all not sexy enough for those still stuck to their ABCs.

That said a 9F on the Moors should be worth listening to!

Anyone got some firm dates? I really fancy doing the Moors this summer and 92214 really would put the icing on the cake.

It's due to arrive tomorrow and to stay till at least October, so should be available for the autumn steam gala (1st-3rd October) The NYMR website has the locos in use on a given day, but they don't list in advance.

    Arrived yesterday on Allellys lowloaders.
    Offloaded at Newbridge facing South.
Loaders then made haste for Scotland to pick up the unit from Oban.
