    Travelling from BNS - Leics this afternoon I noticed a fireless loco. It was in a play park to the left of the line near South Wigston. Needless to say it bore assorted graffitti tags, but also appeared to have a rusted boiler, so presumably will be scrapped soon to avoid damaging the children who have it in their park to climb on.

    Anyone have any gen on that loco's history please?

    Sadly though, the fireless is a much neglected part of our loco heritage because it needs a separate source of steam. I hanker after running "Imperial No.1" out of the collection one day, after all, it is newer than our 08, 13079!

    It reminds me of the fireless at MOSI many years ago.

    I agree it is an area under represented particually given the various roles they were involved in.

    Technology could even make a comeback someday given it only needs a steam supply and steam can be generated from a variety of fuels.

    Hope the fireless in question is given a bit of TLC.

    This locomotive is not r from my girlfriends parents house. Often when I travel past I look an wonder about fireless locos. I understand that Blaeby (sp-girlfriend will kill me) want their station back, and a local man bought the loco and placed it nearby the old station site.

    I too think fireless locos operating are something missing from preservation. Obviously some lines will just not be suited to it, but in a more "museum" setting such as MOSI, I think it will be a great addition. If any group ever starts to restore them, I would certainly make a donation.
