I think these are continental loading gauge, which might limit their appeal.

Don't think they are... why would they be? Barclay built loads of relatively similar locos to British loading gauge for industry.

Great locos no doubt in great condition. Shame they'll probably be bought by some up and coming line and then forgotten about in favour of a 08 or derivitive as soon as they can afford one!

Would love one but I've already got a Barclay diesel under my wing so I can't justify the filler for a second one! (anyone who's ever restored a Barclay should understand that one).

Why would they be? Well, because they were built for use in Germany and are 600hp, ie 50% more powerful (and hence have rather larger engines) than yer typical modern diesel hydraulic Barclay.

I know of one railway that was intersted until they too discovered they were out of gauge for UK lines.

does anyone know how much the MoD is asking for these? they must be absolute beasts, and an ex army locomotive is IMO quite an interesting one.

They are up for tender, so highest bidder will secure them. I guess the dealers will be be bidding based on what they are worth dismantled (the engine is presumably saleable, possibly the transmission, then the rest has scrap value).

That seems to be the standard MoD locomotive livery these days. Striking isn't it. Stands out much better than boring old army green. (Probably safer too.)

They do look wider than British loading gauge- look how much wider the bufferbeams are over the buffers. However, if that isnt enough, I think the livery is enough to put people off!

    Definitely European Loading Gauge

They were built for the British Army for use at German bases - I remember seeing one or 2 round Bicester once when there to do some noise tests...

All six of these locos are now at Winchester Marine Ltd, Binbrook Technical Park, Lincs.
