I was rooting through a thirty-something year old Beamish guidebook the other day when I came upon a map of the site featuring a planned lake, created by damning the beck which runs through the site and in which the museum's coal staithes were to be erected, connected to the railway which then ran from the station to the pit village. This idea was presumably abandoned fairly early on, but as the staithes have fairly recently been placed on display I was wondering whether any plans exist for their future use.
