In which case surely (1) any comments should be passed directly to the fund provider for them to deal with thus (2) denying publicity to those who seek to criticise personalities for reasons unconnected with the immediate cause for concern.

I'm not looking to deny valid comment per se but there are ways and means of pursuing these matters and IMHO a public forum is not the best conduit for constructive criticism.

Sorry I cannot see any problem with discussing it all in public myself.

    With what possible intention please?

Ownership has passed - the new owner is getting on with the job - of doing what the original trust owner intended anyway, so surely the original aims are now being met, from whatever resource .

Does it really matter if the new owner is the owner of the old trust, or merely the chattel, if the intended purpose of the fund raising - the overhaul work is finally being done?

Or do you have some other axe to grind?

Surely yesterday was the prime illustration of the risks and costs shouldered by those brave enough and with sufficient resources to embark on main line operation.

Snipers growling away in the background serve no good purpose at all.

If the loco had been snaffled and was still a pile of scrap iron I may see some point in the armchair interrogation - but that is not the case - so - What is your point, except stirring the pot?

Sorry, are we talking about discussing the ownership of Galatea or discussing the use of public funds in loco restoration?

I am not familiar with the arguments at all but The "Galatea Loco Trust" can be found on the Charity Commissiion web site. It seems to have had very litle recorded income, Names of trustees are in public domain.

One of the sad things has been the demise of the old Steamtown at Carnforth when for a small charge you could pitch up and wonder around the place. Loco's ran on a short track parallel to a narrow guage track. The shed was full of work in progress as well as fully operational units. I guess one of the reasons for the removal of access was health and safety. Alowing Joe Public to wonder around must lead to a huge public liability insurance premium.

Maybe WCRC would consider open days on a more regular basis similar to the one off in 2008. People would be able to see what wonders are performed there and the work in progress. A potential money spinner for WCRC to help fund the work that they do, if they can get a reasonable insurance premium. Good PR for Carnforth and a great opportunity for the enthusiast.

Noticed Heritage Railway are questioning whether 5972 has been sold and moved abroad following the discovery of a loco at the Harry Potter land in the US, that resembles the hall. Surely though somone would have noticed this movement if it is the real Olton Hall ?

Instead of the real Olton Hall they just picked one of the ones in the strategic reserve

Wasn't there talk last year of Warner Brothers making a replica Hall for use in the new Harry Potter bit of the theme park?

Looks like a mock up to me, admittedly a good one.

  12. dare i say that if olton hall had been sold we would of noticed as the export licenses would of been picked up on and someone would of started making noises quite loudly

That's got to be one of the best mock ups i've seen in a age. I wonder if it's got a really copper cap chimney?

Back to one of the other subjects of this thread, "Galatea", does anyone recall a comment a couple of years ago that there was possibly a problem with the driving wheelsets, the journals had been turned somewhere, not at Carnforth, and turned below size?

I agree about the "Hall" by the way, if that is a mock-up, it is a damn good one! Although, if you look carefully, in one photo there appears to be no track under the bogie! Someone messing us about?

Well if you visit the HP World website and take the tour, there it is, just inside the main gate as you go in. Looks just like the photos on here. But if you look closely at those photo's they have to be the thinnest slide bars I've ever seen! But not a bad try and plenty good enough to fool yer average septic. http://www.universalorlando.com/harrypotter/

It looks pretty convincing, the only things I saw which were different from a photo of the Hall at Doncaster open day were the absence of a smokebox footstep, and the rivets joining the footplating behind the bufferbeam looked a bit more evenly spaced on the USA loco. It looked good though, even down to the workstained appearance...

CARNFORTH OVERHAULS, due to Tangmere having its boiler out of the frames for unexpected repairs, and Guardsman, although being found to be repairable, and reputed to be ready in 3/4 weeks, will they will now be putting the 8F and black 5 on hold. 48151 has been outside for the past week, the smokebox has been painted but the pipes from it to the right hand cylinder are still not fitted. there is a good team at carnforth so I'm sure they'll be getting them all out ASAP.
