I have a sudden vision of the Didcot 47xx, when she's finished, being fitted with super sized anglegrinders ahead of each cylinder and being sent out to solve gauging issues on platforms...

7820's steam test was carried out on Friday at Toddington and was passed with flying colours!

Over the course of the weekend a number of DMLL and GWSR volunteers completed many of the remaining tasks, after such a concentrated effort it is hoped to be able to have 7820 making her first moves under her own power in nearly 10 years within the next week.

Great to see the light at the end of the tunnel for No. 7820, she does look wonderful in the sun!

I haven't used up my 2013 member's free travel voucher yet, which is actually valid until the end of March 2014. It would be great to use it on a run behind freshly-overhauled 7820. I'm ever the optimist, but she looks great.

Mm, that's an idea, If she first runs on a Saturday I could probably get on her first ever passenger train...

Not knowing much about these things, how long is it typically before a loco makes her own moves (anticipated to be next week for 7820) and actually in service? Assuming of course the boiler doesn't explode or anything like that :D

Confirmed on the Bluebell website that Dinmore Manor will indeed be using the Dukedog's tender, on an initial 12 month hire. Not sure if it has left yet, but at the weekend it had definitely been split from the loco and was sitting in the tram road at Sheffield Park, awaiting a lorry.

I look forward to it's arrival, a big step closer to that first run! With all the to-ings and fro-ings I've completely lost track of whether this tender is one of the prototypical ones, is it? what happened to the 38xx tender that was supposed to be used this year before dinmore manor's proper one was in use? it just needed sorting out a little more, hence 7903's for testing then it would be in use for the rest of this year. Still a bit confused as to all this, far simpler to convert it to a tank engine, if you can have a 2-8-0 tank I'm sure you can have a 4-6-0- tank!

Looking forward to hopefully seeing Dinmore Manor haul some Bulleid carriages on the Bluebell as a return favour. :)

too late now, that'll be the next project, suggestions for a donor loco  perhaps a cross between a manor and a std 4 turned around...

Joking apart, if a larger boilered tank engine than the 3100s was required I imagine they'd have needed to use a Manor boiler to get a 4-6-2T within red route weight limits. I tried drawing a 4-8-0T but with the standard 4-6-0 layout the wheelbase would have been impractical.

Its just a Manor with 6100 trailing truck, cab and tanks superimposed, the tanks extended forward a bit and the bunker aft a tad. Weld some frame extensions on, add a radial truck and new cab and tanks. The exact reverse of the West Somerset's 5193->9351 exercise. I had vector drawings for parents both knocking around so it wasn't hard to do. Quite what use such an engine would be in the real world is another matter.

Alex, the situation regarding the ex 3855 tender was explained in post #79

It's all rather simple, it has only started to look 'confusing' due to the good old rumour mill muddying the waters plus comments leading people to think that a Churchward 3500 tender isn't suitable for a Manor.....! The tender arrived this morning from the Bluebell and was duly unloaded, it is likely that coupling it up to 7820 will take place next week with initial movements up and down the yard taking place with the 7903 tender.

I do like the Abergavenny 4-6-2T Jamesquared. I presume this is/was a LBSC loco?
Anyway at least Dinmore Manor is at the GWSR now and very much where I'd like to be too as 12th was Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival Ladies Day and that means:
    cheltenham-ladies-day-2014.jpg
I suppose I should go to bed now as I'm feeling rather tired, bit like that chap drawing weird diagrams of GWR whatifs!

Yes, LBSCR J class. Two were built - the other, "Bessborough", differed slightly in having outside Walschaerts Gear. If you did a new build, you could even have BR livery (just…)

I thought the GWR 4-6-2T looked rather good personally. However, Like Tom, if I had a couple of million to play with, I'd rather see a replica LBSCR 4-6-2T make an appearance.

always thought the Brighton tanks were very impressive, but that Manor tank....well, it does look the part!
