Dunno if this has been put up before but just been remincising with my Dad about 1450, so just wondering what locos do people count as favorites. Dosnt have to be just one, just be intresting to hear what people like and why. My own are in no order 43106 (rember seeing it rusting and always feeling slightly sorry for it but an absolute beast. I love it, not the most glamourus but gets the job done no fuss, bit like my next choice) 45110( cant beat a black 5 and I feel like Ive grown up with this one) N2 1744 (nice and Chunky makes a lovely sound) 7812 (I just love manors, holidays on the cambrian as a kid and growing up theres always been a manor in traffic at SVR) 48773 ( powerful beast and has fantastic history) These are my favorites so go on do tell.. What are yours....?

All time fave Leander. Plenty of childhood memories of her at the SVR and although I rode behind her many times since it was special moment when she appeared at the 2010 ASG, in fact I got a bit emotional as it took me right back to my childhood and the hope that it would be overhauled and back in SVR service, something that didn't happen so it was nice to see it my favourite engine back on my favourite railway, I think the Leander soft spot was in part due to fact that it was the first tender engine on my model railway and from the day I bought that model the seeds of affection was assured.

600 Gordon and 196 Errol Lonsdale, first locos I really took note of, as a kid, at Longmoor. 1363 first loco I got near and worked on.

80135, as I had a hand in saving it, followed by 61264 as both epitomise the pre-NYMR Whitby & Pickering that I can just remember albeit more in the Scarborough area.

61624 was a mistake on my part as it is "Lumley Castle"; it should have been 61638 "Melton Hall" but I've been 61624 for so long now there's no point changing; if I did I might as well be 60044, as I am on the NYMR forum!

For all my leanings towards freight locos my favourite would be 46115 Scots Guardsman. A Longsight Loco for many years (and I was born a whistle blast away in Gorton), I rode on the footplate at Dinting (remember that place?) and I've ridden the S&C and Copy Pit behind her (him?).

Makes a wonderful racket (especially when all 3 cylinders are working properly!) and generates more power than such a lithe looking engine should.

    Marvellous.

'Meteor' and 69023 for me, due to fond childhood memories of both engines. Also 'Gervase', which fascinated me when I was a kid and had now become one of preservation's rags to riches stories, 45428, which was the first steam engine I ever saw.

That was going to be fairly obvious considering your username/number wasn't it, :) but hey I have to agree, just adding 6201 and her class.

Just thinking of 46115 Id have that as the favorite engine I've never had... Remember seeing it at Tyesley as a kid really nicely proportioned machine... As I say its the beast I've not had... Yet!

I forgot on my side of the pond. Obviously, the former Frisco 1522 was my favourite. I'm really looking Forward to the return of N&W 611.

Any merchant navy class, and BoB/WC, you'd care to mention, despite my LMS heritage (35029 was the first loco I can remember seeing - apparently my toddler self was fascinated by it), can't beat a black 5, USA S160s, 3672 'Dame Vera Lynn', 50015 'Valiant' (yes, that is a diseasel!)

And seeing as I've mentioned a rebuilt Bulleid pacific, I might as well mention the LMS equivalents for good measure!
