Some comments overheard at the weekend from the public.

    Which one is which?
Is it The Duke of The Gloucester?
The steam from the back engine drives the one on the front.
Can I get off while the train is moving to take a photo and get back on again?

Having covered one end of the spectrum - the importance of not judging by appearances just how well informed an individual might be - we now come face to face with the other end. How a substantial body of individuals have very little knowledge and as a result ask some unthinking howlers. You can excuse the lack of knowledge but the apparent lack of ability to think is something else. You might be forgiven for having the view that some are striving for a lifetime achievement award for perfecting the art of putting the mouth in gear before engaging the brain.

My reply to that one when on duty (yes I have had it, a few times now) is usually "yes, next train's in about an hour..."

As I moaned about on "Wareham" another example of muddled practice; vertical dimension in imperial, horizontal dimension in metric.

That doesn't mean the ORR spring into action on 21st.

In that case ,i would imagine that a second loaded test would be pencilled in wth DBS so that Scotsman can be operated on their books also as it makes sense now not to have all your eggs in one basket if that basket is going to end up with you having egg on face, if you do find that operator is unable to operate on NR. Given the reputation of IR, i dont see any problem with DBS accepting 60103 ,

Wouldn't DBS accept the certificate from the VAB without having to carry out a test run of their own? 46100 recently had a test run under WC, DBS will surely be able to operate it now too it has been certified?

I would have thought that DBS would want to ensure any loco on their books is up to their standards,
So the loaded test runs are to prove to the VAB that the engine is fit to operate on NR and it don’t matter who operates it on the test run? So as long as its Air braked and they have no problems with the loco, could DBS operate an WCRS owned Steam loco?

Who knows, the "consultation" responses may have contained 95% bouquets to 5% brickbats in the opinions of the parties consulted......

Or if all of the respondents said kill WCR, does that mean ORR have to carry out that action?

Or this could rumble on for years!

The folks from Heritage Painting have revealed on twitter that they are booked to apply 60103's final livery at the beginning of February. 14 days of work to do the job apparently.

Strange though it is but right now I really hope that Scotsman's program is a success. WCRC and/or DBS whichever way things end up. Again, Kudos to Mr. Riley and his team.

The consultation is not about a vote of confidence in WCRC, it's about how the interested parties will be affected if they pull the plug on the company. The ORR are judge and jury they will decide if they are safe or not and decide accordingly. It's looking a bit bleak at the present although the appointment of a new safety mananged is a step in the right direction but with under two weeks to go it may be too late.
