So far I have explained to 10 non train people about the fact she's now 60103. The question i've been asked is "why have they changed the number when they painted it green?" So it seems that the shade of green does not matter but the number change does. I suppose 4472 is very much it's trademark number. Hopefully people will get used to it and not to many people keep asking about the change. One person blamed British Railways for ruining her number but I told them the LNER did that back in 1946. I suppose if the LNER had not renumbered in 1946. Her number today would have been 64472.

Just splendid. What a great show the NRM and everyone associated with the great engine put on.

Truly, I'll never forget that day. Such a terrific day out.

Was a tad chilly outside the NRM last night but worth shivering to get the shots. Nice to have met The Black Hat again but no I idea if other NatPres members were in the crowd as most of us on here don't now what each other look like of course.

  8. If I were you I would be neither, it's simply an observation. Nobody else ever sees us as we see ourselves. Which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your position...
It appears from today's MREmag that you also 'cheat' a bit, copying and pasting your posts across multiple forums. The secret to your online omnipresence is revealed! :Jimlad:

I can only imagine the outpouring of indignation that the references to 'Dead Ned' Thompson from one contributor (no, not me) will generate on Wednesday's issue. I suspect it will make for a fair amount of scrolling past ;)

    That much is certain!

In fairness, would you rewrite something multiple times to say the same thing? I did however provide my own photographs for the MREmag article. I have also sent an edited version to one of the magazines with some additional content to add thanks to a few people who I missed out originally.

I only wish I could do more on my blog at the minute but time eludes us all in busy times.

No, not for me this week. I am too busy finalising the draft of my Edward Thompson book for review and editing this week at long last. Actions speak louder than words, and like Mr Hardy with his excellent book on the Gresley P2s, I hope the depth of my research shows all sides of the story in an objective and objectively fair light.

And while all GWR 4-6-0s look the same, perhaps this applies to LNER pacifics too!

I think we can say with some degree of certainty that the A4s stand out from among the rest.

I'm forever being told that the Thompson Pacifics don't look the same as the rest either - as far as I'm concerned, the big thing about the 8P LNER Pacifics was that they all shared a round topped boiler, 8-wheel tender and 6ft 8in driving wheels. Two types of 3 cylinder propulsion used (in three formats), locomotives from Gresley, Thompson and Peppercorn all sharing a family resemblance but all clearly the products of their respective designers and eras. And that's what makes following the LNER Pacifics interesting for me.

Went to the museum today, arriving at about noon, surprised at how few members of the public were around Scotsman. With a bit of patience, it was possible to get an unobstructed shot, from the sunny side. When the announcement for the turntable demonstration, within the museum, was made, quite a few went inside to watch that. (around 1pm)
The night shoot was excellent, with a sensible number of participants. Well done to the NRM and all its late night helpers. 10/10

Choices, choices. I am on multiple forums and I like to share my experiences with everyone. Since my post was a letter of thanks, more or less, surely it is fair and right it goes out to as many people as possible so that they too know who to thank for the excellence of the day?

You won't like my blog tonight then on the event that I've written up, with an edited version of my earlier post (and including my photographs from the event)!

For those of you who are interested, here is the link.

A friend with an advance copy of next week's Radio Times tells that on BBC4 on Monday next at 8.30 p.m. there is a programme about this Locomotive's return.
