The picture of Flying Scotsman going past Emirates Stadium on February 25th made it into the Arsenal's Watford match day programme and a large 2 page picture appears in the latest Arsenal Magazine including a little write up by the photographer.

I suppose that we should be glad that it wasn't one of those we're using in Syria. ;)

The gooners will be up in arms that Wenger didn't sign it up and put it into todays team, and thats the reason they haven't won the premier league every year since 1903.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my original question about when was the last time Flying Scotsman ran with two tenders. The last picture I can find of it on the mainline with the second tender in blue and grey is late 1977 returning to Carnforth after filming 'Agatha' at York and pulling 'Lord Nelson' there for overhaul (for Rainhill in 1980 - picture in Brian Sharpe's recent bookazine). There are couple of pictures elsewhere with it double heading with KGV and the second tender in use but that's about it.

Couple of pics from '74 and '75 here…

    http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/in...otos-ongoing-more-added-29th-february/page-95

Interestingly, when Hornby did a limited edition of 4472 with the blue and grey second tender, the certificate that came with it said it was as the loco appeared between 1972 and 1975 so maybe '75 was the last run? To be fair, the '1972' part is a bit inaccurate as it was still in the USA until 1973 (with 2 green tenders!).

    http://www.ehattons.com/107682/Horn...n_with_two_tenders_Special_E/StockDetail.aspx

I last saw the original body of the second tender (still in blue and grey) dumped in a field near the Tanfield Railway in about 1997/ 1998. Is it still there…?

Reports on Facebook that it's suffered a vacuum brake failure at the NYMR. Black 5 Eric Treacy been sent to assist.

And if you look about 4 posts above your post, there is a comment "Fault Repaired"

    From Ian Riley.
There was a 'sticking' vacuum drip valve that lead to the first turn requiring assistance from the Stanier Five, upon return to shed after that trip the problem was cured and the two later trips did indeed run.

    From 80135
All the Flying Scotsman trips have run today as Ian has stated, and indeed the article has been updated to make clearer that it was non-Scotsman trips that were affected (both DMU operated), although the title and text remain seriously inaccurate. In other words, a total non-story and very inaccurate and therefore unfair on all concerned the way is has been reported and highlighted.

I just hope that people booked on this afternoon's trips didn't not turn up as a result. Our website was updated to reflect what really happened.

I don't know how anyone thought it would be for the benefit of the loco or the NYMR to go to the media with this "story" or highlight it, at least without checking the facts.

The York Press pictures specifically mention morning. The post you refer to was made just before 3pm. I am not York Press and I doubt they read this Forum. Another loco may well have not been reported but FS has had a tremendous amount of publicity, particularly in York and Yorkshire so it is natural for it to be newsworthy = good or bad.

I believe that tender was originally from SNG when she received a new tender body built onto the existing frames at an Engineering Company at Swalwell, Gateshead.

The second tender tank was not new it was modified coal tender, when cutting up still had the coal space inside and the coal slope at the back of tender and still hand the shoveling plate oil cupboard and tool box inside the corridor vestibule. so not a new tank. FISH7373 81C NFP

Did 60103 run with the NYMR's Teaks at all? I believe that when Steam Railway launched its appeal for the vaccum brakes it was planned to pair Scotsman with the teaks on the line (albeit at the time it hadn't been announced that she would be running as 60103). A shame about the small incidents during its visit but apart from the brake issue yesterday its good to see the loco running so well.

I'm looking forward to seeing the loco Friday and some day my first ride behind her . One thing I'd have loved from a selfish point of view is that the weekend of September 17th/18th is the 175th Anniversary of Haywards Heath station where a celebration of events are planned but also on September 17th will be the 50th Anniversary of Flying Scotsman's one and so far only visit to the Brighton Line back in 1966 and would have been nice to see a return visit. That weekend also happens to be the weekend just before my birthday.

No Scotsman did not run with the LNER set.
It was felt that it was important on this occasion to maximise the seating capacity and in it's post 1960 condition or would not have been appropriate to run with them anyway.

Hopefully once all the fuss has died down and it has returned to being 4472 it will pay another visit and be paired with the set.

Is that really the only time Scotsman has visited the south coast? I remember going on a tour along the coast to Brighton, but I didn't think it was quite that far back. Sadly the photos I took are long gone.
