Flying Scotsman

There are some interesting comments about the SD Scotsman trips on Twitter. People who were on the cancelled Ely trip have asked if timings will be available nearer the time to view 60103 on one of the other trips. The SD twitter account has said they will not make them available to those not travelling due to what happened in February. I wonder if they will also be kept off Real-time trains?

1744's recent foray to Kings cross was successfully repressed from realtime trains and opentraintimes until it arrived back at Bounds Green, when they became visible.

So it's possible.
How many mom and pop families have even heard of realtimetrains let alone ever visited the site and /or look for Scotsman and successfully translated it's website data, known and decipherable only to those who are cranks or work on railways and to figure it out is debatable however.

 

But those who *can* understand RTT will tell those that can't.

 

Possibly more than you'd think - and if it's a primary source for a few, the information can then be spread.

 

But those who can understand it will probably find out via other very very well known websites too and can still tell those who can't.

The only difference is if it's on time or not... The enthusiast however has the bush telegraph and has honed this skill well for over 50 years without the internet.

So impact probably none, other than someone's massaged ego to think by exerting power in the name of safety that they have successfully saved thousands of lives by taking it offline, who knows they may even brag about their achievements on LinkedIn... There still will be muppets on the line however... Charles Darwin teaches us this.

And I believe they will still not be charging a premium for the Scotsman hauled trains....

 

Just one little thing about the Robson Green programme. He tells the story about the miners removing track and derailing the Flying Scotsman but 4472 wasn't involved in the incident as Robson seems to suggest. It wasn't 4472 but wasn't it one of the other early Gresley A1's instead (or it may have been an A3).

A very good programme none the less though.

 

Personally was expecting much more time in IR workshops, littered with continuity errors, "Merry Hampton", was the loco derailed by the way.

 

And if you believe that you may be somewhat off the mark....

 

This has been posted on the SD site on the timings page for the first 60103 trip:

"In order to avoid overcrowding and incidents of trespass we have been advised not to publish recommended viewing points or the timetable of when the train will be passing through specific locations.

Steam Dreams respectfully asks that all people who wish to see Flying Scotsman do so from a permitted location and do not trespass on the railway. While we understand interest in Flying Scotsman will be extremely high, we urge those wishing to view it on its tour dates do so from a safe vantage point. It is vital that spectators do not venture onto the railway, particularly when it is on the mainline as a full timetable of regular services will be running."

Pretty Folly is what I think it is that only a Minoru-ity will not be affected and thus making her a Hermit on the mainline when those that paid for it cannot see it as those that be on some Gay Crusade want it to run in a secret, preserve for those eating Cameronian Salmon Trout Sandwich and Spearmint, an Enterprise made by chef Donavan and Victor wild using a Royal Lancer, riding behind it as it is Galopin thru the Merry Hamptons.

Still maybe Brown Jack, Windsor Lad or Call Boy can get it out of the country for a bit of Humourist activity by taking it to Doncaster, Gainsborough or maybe even Colorado, Colombo or Singapore for its Centenary or Diamond Jubilee, though is that too late.

According to the Papyrus the amount of Hyperion means people Shotover the Fairway at speeds like Dick Turpin that even Captain Cuttle couldn't keep people off the track it passed so slow it was barely a Blink Bonny.

Maybe one solution is like a Flying Fox Is to make this Flamingo a Night Hawk and run it to places like Blenheim, Blair Athol or somewhere up the Great Northern to make its Manna and Harvester the cash.

St Simon, Sir Visto and Sir Frederick Banbury, sitting in St Galtien or even Melton here would be amazed at such futile actions as people have for years come out to watch It and never will stop. The people will always win by Woolwinder-Ing the schedules to find it with great Persimmon activities... Ladas will be Ladas after all.

Perhaps we need a Trigo of a, Sir Hugo, White Night or the Knight of the Thistle to intervene with some Firdaussi at a Grand Parade of their own using a Gladiator called Cicero (-also by Tracery identified as Neil Gow, of Ormonde and Sansovino, It's very St Frusquin-rating.

Still all could be Tranquil in Felstead if Prince Palatine and William Whitelaw, The Tetrarch looked at this through his Isinglass.

Maybe if such a Sunstar with a Sceptre it could avoid Robert the Devils attempts at hiding it in some Spion Kop in places like Lemberg from the public by letting it reach its Coronach by carrying different names....
