Presumably the first couple of years won't generate so much 'profit' because the custodianship arrangement needs to be properly funded?
After that a renewal might occur so how much is available to put into the pot after all running expenses can only be guessed at.

Might that be shown in accounts for the NRM, at some stage????

Not sure making that level of detail public would serve much purpose in the scheme of things. Once its spent, its spent?

Well I thought the NYMR made something like £370k profit? the SVR must have made a six figure sum as well. The main line trips are full. Surely there is something for the loco out of all this ?

Undoubtedly but overheads are unknown so the question about what will be in the pot come ticket expiry cannot be answered. Hopefully a judicious and prudent approach to the commercial management will yield a healthy profit. As has been speculated elsewhere it is unlikely that a ring fencing approach will be possible with it in public ownership.

What do you mean by a "healthy profit" in this context? That direct cash receipts are greater than direct cash outgoings?

Its the indirect spend that cannot be quantified, how about the souvenirs etc.., bought in York, the extra visits, getting steam into the National Media.

From that respect it is excellent value for money, and the next overhaul, should not be a problem, she is being looked after by the right people, to a plan.

    Long may that continue.

If the money doesn't go to the NRM, why would it show in their accounts?

i would think it depends on if the loco has its own designated account with in the NRM accounts, otherwise it could go into the general NRM coffers, does the operating deal include hire fees?when the loco visits preserved lines or is it just an agreement to operate and maintain the loco?.

Only what you hear from informed sources but even that falls into the rumour category and not for posting; by me, anyway.

My assumption Steve is that all income is goes to NMSI as @std tank suggests. NMSI then pay bills as they arise whether fixed or variable?
As I also said though I don't think it serves any purpose to publicly know what the accounting arrangements are.

Apologies if this has been discussed (I'm guessing by the length of the thread it probably has been but I haven't managed to find much on it), but why does Flying Scotsman's whistle sound so feeble? I preferred the old chime whistle although I imagine that is not authentic. Is the current whistle working properly as I'm sure it can't have sounded quite as weak in service.

That's the standard LNER whistle fitted and yes it is meant to sound like that.

I think most whistles sound feeble by comparison with a chime whistle but it's really no more feeble than that fitted to other engines.
