    That's exactly what happens!

You buy a ticket, you get a guide & TT.

I don't see the point in putting out a gala guide it just adds extra costs to the event.

I'd be interested as to the reasoning behind Gemma's question...........

If its cutting costs, then maybe highlight the guests and just do a brief resume of the home fleet - the GCR IIRC does this in a much slimmed down version to what the MHR put out, food for thought maybe?......

Hmm personally I thought the GCR guide was fairly pointless and was mainly filled with all the different timetables for the full week…..

Not on a gala timetable it don't........ sounds like you need to go to Specsavers..........

Though something tells me next year, the MHR gala guide will be somewhat diiferent.

Or put posters on stations giving customers information about locos. Posters could be changed over when new locos enter service or visiting engine arrive. A good web site would also have all this information available for down loading. I would think most customers would be happy with a timetable when purchasing their ticket. Extra revenue from not having a gala guide could be put in to better use.

I haven't been to many galas of late, but the Tracks to the Trenches guide at Apedale was something else - but there was no timetable, just an excellent background to the event, exhibit guide and site plan. An excellent souvenir publication too.

Cutting costs would be a beneficial part. The question is part of an event review. (That in no way means the event is about to change or the like but more considering the Event Department's practice to ensure we are not doing things simply because it is habit. This applies to a number of our events, not just galas).

This constant practice review spills over into the production of our Gala Guide, are we producing something that our visitors would like and see as having a useful part in the event? Or has the guide become habit that people have no interest in? Rather than assume an answer, it makes more sense to go directly to the source and ask.

Views and ideas that have been given have been very useful and will be considered over the next few months. A drastic decision will not be made but we will keep 'testing the water' to ensure that what we are doing is useful.

    Thank you all,
    Gemma
