Interesting Mr Reeder now changed to a Mixed Goods Loco (so that it can haul passenger trains?!).
Last week he was getting 2516 out of Swindon!

Well they're trying to take on a loco that the owning group have given up on, surely that's better than what they were doing before? Why not give then a chance before seeking to knock them down?

Love the comment about having it on the NYMR, don't they already have a 38XX they seem to have forgotten about ?, would have thought another 8F type would suit their requirements.

The one on the NYMR is privately owned, so it isn't the railway's to forget about. Personally, I think it's a shame that work on it seems to have stalled, but I don't think the NYMR would want another loco in ex-Barry condition - there's nowhere to work on it.

I can see a few problems with restoring this loco :-

Have they got the money to buy & move it ?
    The tender has been sold.
Some of the rods which had been acquired have now been sold to the Grange project.

I've been watching this with interest as it unfolded over the last few weeks.

Mr Reeder appears to have gone from a new build Dean Goods, to restoring 2516, back to a new build Dean Goods and now on to restoring 2859. It would appear that he did not consult other members of the group before making these (very rapid) changes which is not a good sign for the stability and accountability of a group.

He is currently very actively soliciting donations through the Facebook page, but there are no details of what bank account this money is going into. It would be interesting to find out how much money Mr Reeder has donated himself...
He talks about a trust but has previously admitted that he cannot create a trust until he has raised £5,000. Questions have been asked about the 'Directors'/'Trustees' but these have gone unanswered. Questions have been asked about how refunds would be given if the project failed to reach it's targets, the response being that they would use Paypal to refund, but if the Facebook page disappears, then no-one has any way of contacting the 'group' to request a refund!

All in all this has the potential for a lot of people to lose money with no comeback.

    Keith

PS: If Mr Reeder is looking in on this thread, you should really get someone to proof read your appeal leaflet - the word is involved, not envolved.

It's attitudes and comments like that which put the younger generation (mine) off from getting Involved in existing projects and organisations within preservation. That ultimately leads to projects like Mr Reeder's seeing the light of day.
Everyone who wants to form an opinion on their activities has probably done so already. I really don't see how regurgitating the same pathetic slights helps anyone.

Perhaps he needs to set his sights a bit lower; perhaps find a Toad to restore, or a new build porter's trolley.

Don't knock him, he's giving a lot of people a lot of amusement.

Not putting me off, and I'm 15! The only people who will see this discussion will be people already interested no doubt, and surely everyone can see it is ludicrous. You never know, maybe one day I might get involved in the early stages of a new build, but in the meantime I'm quite happy restoring existing things, don't see why he shouldn't be too.

While they're at Llangollen inspecting the loco I would suggest that they take a look at 3802 , which will show them how much work they need to do.
It's all very well saying that they have an engineer on board, but does he have access to the various machine tools required ?
Have a look a the projects already underway in the works & then envisage the amount of cash required for a restoration such as this.
The loco , in spite of its good condition, has been overlooked by several potential buyers in favour of poorer, less complete examples, so where's the funding likely to appear from ?

    Bob.
