Ex Port Talbot Railway 26, now GWR 813, is being retubed by East Somerset Railway volunteers at Cranmore. A swift return to traffic is expected.

32110, that is good news.
Pat Goss from the 813 Fund told me back in January that this useful little engine might need a new firebox. A retube implies that the firebox replacement is a little way off.
However when you see Pat on the 813 Fund sales stall at Kidderminster station, please do make a purchase. Pat devotes much of his spare time to raising funds to keep the loco running, and deserves support.

Does seem a strange move on Paddy Goss's part, as she is out of ticket next year.

This Engine is Awesome! We had it down Swanage for a bit and it was such a laugh and such a departure from what we are used to!
Well good fun! Keep it going as long as it can do, really is a worthwhile bit of kit

I presume therefore the inspection was OK and the hire costs are sufficient to warrant the retube.

Glad to see it'll be back

View of the inside of 813's boiler. Sorry for poor quality but my camera is out of gauge for working thro' tubeplates - spacing of lens and flash. Tubes are expected any day now.

A week after my picture above the tubes are in and after taking up a few weepers a warming fire has been lit.P1020128.JPG[/attachment:ihs1du2z]P1020132.JPG[/attachment:ihs1du2z]

Retube has been completed and she passed her exam on 2/4/09. She was in traffic today.

Great news. This loco is a real character, and much appreciated wherever she goes.
