    I have an urge to buy a loco, whats the going rate for a 56, any ideas please?

    well scrap steel is £175 a tonne atm, you've also got several tonnes of copper in there at £4400 a tonne, so the scrap price is going to be approx £32 grand. If its a runner, then its going to be more than that...

    I understand Booths quoted £14,500 for a class 47. However this is likely to be fraction of the cost of getting it running. Anything that is going for under about £50,000 is likely to be heaverly stripped, and may beyond repair.

    You'd probably need to form a group of like-minded individuals to share costs and work together on the restoration!

    Think 10 k transport costs, and several times the purchase price to get it into decent nick!
    Then you've got to find a home for it. Many lines have got the "full" signs out, and a air brake only loco isn't a whole lot of use. (Sadly, as I have a soft spot for the things as well).
