A very handsome piece of equipment. Not so sure about the parking brake though.

Not sure why not - perfectly normal to chock the wheel when not in use.
The screw-on brake (if indeed the engine has ever had one fitted - some haven't) is usually of limited effectiveness.
A flywheel brake is magic, but clearly rendered useless when the engine is out of gear.

...of course it can be amusing to spot those who have actually dropped the chock in on the uphill side of the wheel.

Yes I am an active volunteer
I was watching an episode of Inside The Steam Train Museum last night and had to laugh about the fallen tree scenes.
scene 1: fire engine using winch to drag broken top of tree out of a pond. tree got stuck. winch torn out of mountings.
scene 2: traction engine using winch to pull remains of tree trunk out of the ground. No contest. TE didn't even hesitate.
final score. Old tech 1 : new tech 0 :D

Nice to see a roller that hasn’t been fitted with fairy lights and a dynamo. So many have been converted to SRL’s.
