Can someone inform as to why this loco is currently not been looked at for restoration?

It's centianry (spel?) is next year. It was the first mainline loco bought for preservation, 50 years ago next year as well. If it is not going to steam is there no opportunity for some sort of celebration?

It would make a change to the large number of NRM locos that appear to be express passenger types for example, Scotsman, Nelson,30777, Oli Cromwell etc. Plus it would be useful to a small preserved line. There only is one other NRM tank engine running at the moment surely there is room for one more?

Or is this the usual if someone will sponser it arguement for this locomotive?

That would be LBCSR Gladstone, preserved by the Stephenson Locomotive Society in 1927.

i think what he means to say, is the first mainline locomotive bought for preservation....... by an individual. almost there beetlejuice.

i agree that as a small versatile engine in a livery no other engines are wearing it should be a relatively small scale restoration. but what it does need is a sugar daddy. now lets just wait for the first person to complete the sentence... i'd rather see__________ (insert another engine) restored

If I remember rightly it will need a new set of tyres as the current ones are down to scrapping size.

    Regards,

It would mean the NRM could send an engine to some of the smaller lines which don't suit the bigger engines, such as the KESR, Lavender, IoWSR etc.

Yes I did mean by an Indivisual sorry for the confusion....

04 is hardly small though is it? City is slightly better but smaller running locomotives are vastly underrepresented by NRM currently in my opinion.

Find the money, write the business plan and letter requesting a loan and see what happens. ;-)

I don't know about you but I'd hardly declare the O4 as "small". I suppose it is smaller than an A4 or Duchess, but it's also bigger than a lot of other things.

I suppose it does, although I was more counting the ones on preserved lines.

Also didn't see her running on saterday when I was at Shildon, is this normal?

Yes, we only have a small team of volunteers who run steam and they are pushed to manage the 42 days we do operate in a year. Steam operating dates are on our website, and don't forget the steam gala on 20/21 of this month.

That said, we were in steam on Thursday for a driver experience - sure beats flying the PC!
