Even though 'Burton Agnes' would have survived?

It would be interesting as to which classes, notably SR and GWR, would not have survived without Barry, i.e. were bought straight from BR or from other yards. Does anyone know of or possess such a list?

Perhaps the furore over 4472's livery and 4771's monobloc wouldn't be so intense if other A3s and V2s had survived.

I'm open to correction but I think that the only other ex BR loco to come out of a scrapyard was 45305 (ex Drapers). Having said that, I've got it in the back of my mind that a Pannier might have!

    What wouldn't we have? SR: U, N, Q and S15's; GW: a Hall (as distinct from a modified), 42XX, 51XX, 52XX, 53XX and 72XX; LMS: Stanier 2-6-0, Midland 4F and S & D 2-8-0; LNER nothing; BR: The Duke, Cl 4 4-6-0, Cl 4 2-6-0 & Cl 2 2-6-0.

As a non-GW guy, I thought I had done pretty well separating out 42XX & 52XX! Should I have included 4575's as a different class?

Oh yes, I suppose you could! I always forget the 55 at Paignton came from Barry.

The rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacifics of both varieties were courtesy of Woodhams too.

This topic reminded me of a bit of film from the BBC - if you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/nationonfilm/topic ... ndex.shtml and click on 'Scrap Yard' about 2/3 down the menu, the film shows a scrapyard 'near Barnsley'. It's not great quality but identifiable are: B1 61010; V2 60831; namer Black 5, possibly 45154 Lanarkshire Yeomanry plus another Five; 8Fs; WD 2-8-0s including 90051; Ivatt 2-6-0s 46436, 46437(?) and 46449; and what may be a B16 rebuild or possibly an O4 rebuild. Great stuff but very sad.

    Cheers
    Dave

The scrapyard featured is a few miles from Barnsley. It is Drapers at Hull.

Maybe the A1 trust could of metamorphosis it self in to 71000 trust. Or would anyone of thought about building another 71000 with all the steaming problems she had in BR days.

9642 ex- RS Hayes at Bridgend. Also 63395 was supposedly bought from Hughes Bolckow at Blyth rather than direct from BR - there was a long discussion somewhere on this forum.

One class of loco I would have like to see preserved is 72xxx I know there is a project to build another Clan. But this seems some way off from steaming. It would also be nice to have a few more Brits saved.

And me too! The GCR would have been more authentic with LNE power. I think I might add K3, K2 and a few additional K1 to the list above. It's a pity that Draper didn't have the feel for steam, just a feel for greed. Never mind it's all in the past.

    Regards

Thats a bit unfair on Drapers - they were a business after all.
