A credit card booking would give you recourse to the credit card company. If you can't get any contact with the railtour company, your best bet may be to write (recorded delivery) to the railtour people to ask for a refund within 7 days and if no joy then to ask the credit card company for a refund and let the credit card company and the railtour company sort each other out. Check your credit card terms and conditions for any time limits for claiming on them.

I think that Kingfisher have brought about these rumours (which I don't want to fuel) by their behaviour over refunds for cancelled trains. It is hardly surprising that many people put 2 and 2 together to make 5!

They never answered any of my emails. Advice? that's difficult, I think most people have tried most things over a long period of time. Me personally IF I was ever in the same position, I would find out a lot more about Roger Hardingham and pursue the matter that way. When I eventually did get my refund the cheque was drawn on a bank branch in Settle, North Yorks.

After many attempts at trying to call Kingfisher, I finally managed to get through this morning, regarding a refund for a cancelled trip in August. I was told that they'd been very busy, and that my refund hadn't been processed by 'accounts'.

I get the impression that this is just a very poorly run company rather than one that's trying to withhold funds. However, the cynic in me knows that it's not too difficult to get this kind of thing right, so they must have something to hide, i.e. cashflow problems.

My advice is to persevere on the phone calls - the admin person I spoke to seemed very helpful. Fingers crossed I receive my cheque...

Well let hope after this thread Kingfisher do not suffer lack on bookings.
Pity people have to gossip and spread rumour even though they have never even booked any trips.

At the end of the day the loosers will be us and the loco owners.

Maybe someone from Kingfisher can come on here and set the record straight...

I wonder if the seemingly neglectful attitude towards refunds has though...

I have now booked for the North Yorkshire Coast Explorer, 8 tickets (£36.50 each - a real bargain for I reckon 150 miles of steam and a 200 mile trip). I spoke with someone at Kingfisher who confirmed that unless there are operational reasons all advertised trains should run. [-o<

I know the country is in a bad state and customers quite rightly demand more (including timely refunds) but if we don't spend a small bit of our hard earned cash there will be nothing left next year.

I read with interest in a recent SR about there being too many steam excursions for them to be filled, if we don't put our faith in operators who judging on what they have said to me and their website suggests are still up and running, there will not be enough for the enthusiasts out there meaning a probable hike in prices for those left. Things only remain affordable when there is competition for our custom!

We need a new SLOA to co-ordinate mainline steam.

Me personally I do not want to see ANY operator in trouble. Kingfisher only have themselves to blame if the traveling public are losing faith. For the sake of their own future, they must get their act together administration wise.

Must go for a lie down - someone else sees the need for co-ordination in the field!

Now all we need are NR, the TOCs involved, the Promoters and the loco owners

In SR magazine this month there is a small item about Kingfisher and the cancellation of rail tours. What’s going on with that company they can’t even tell the stewards that the tour has been cancelled? People turning up to work on a rail tour and no train to work on all seems a bit fishy to me. What will the general public think about this. Would they think twice before booking another trip?

Perhaps they simply could not be contacted in time/were not home or whatever.

Er, mobile phones could have been used perhaps?...

I notice now the Christmas Welsh Marches Express on 22nd November has disappeared from Kingfisher's website - another cancellation?

They still have my money for the 3rd August cancelled tour.

In the light of this thread I want to ask for it back. I can always rebook if a new date appears, but they don't reply to my emails, and their phone is permanently engaged, even ringback doesn't work.

I too booked on the August 3 tour and have had no reply to emails and phone engaged.
Have no choice but to write and ask for full refund
If that doesn't work will contact credit card company.
Surely Kingfisher can't expect people to still book with them after treating their customers so poorly?

We were booked on the Dalesman trip on 7th September which was cancelled . I telephoned Kingfisher on tuesday 9th and got through quite easily. We were offered the trip on the 10th but other commitments ruled this out. I assume that no one I spoke to was at that time aware of the impending cancellation of that train as well.

I was informed that my credit card payment would be refunded within two weeks . However a quick check with the card company today showed nothing yet.

And now it's been removed again - seems they can't decide whether to advertise it or not! #-o
