Shame that, as, living in Gloucestershire, the NNR is a little far away for me!

Does anyone have the latest information on photography at the East Lancs, Severn Valley and West Somerset, please?

If you have a lineside pass for KWVR you should also have the Photographers' Guide which lists restrictions and access points. For the Damens Loop there are 2 options - (1) public access to Damens station then walk along track according to the access instructions in the photographers guide or (2) public access to Oakworth Station then walk along the track according to the access instructions in the photographers' guide.

Since each railway operates its own policy re Lineside Passes, your best bet is to contact each railway to find out their access policies. Many now insist on some form of Safety Knowledge / Training but this (a) applies to that specific railway and (b) is chargeable on some lines hence the need to contact each line which you are interested in to find out their specific arrangements - and charges.

  5. I understand WSR Lineside Photography Permits will be available in 2018 (soon I hope!) but as yet there seems no details on costs. I also understand those wishing to get a permit for photography must attend the standard WSR PTS course. But maybe best to contact directly or wait for info to be issued.

Thanks for the replies so far, I am aware of PTS (I deliver the course) and that railways will have different policies on photography / lineside passes for non-operational persons. However, I was hoping that people on here who know each of them might answer to save me trying to go to each one in turn to find out. So if you know about the following, in particular, I am interested in their positions.
    East Lancs
    Great Central
    Wensleydale
    Weardale
    Gloucs & Warks
    West Somerset
SVR I know had stopped them but are considering reinstating

    Thanks in anticipation

The WSR are about to reintroduce (posted December 21)
One item in the recently issued 'News from the Boardroom' bulletin provides an update on Lineside Passes for Photographers:

We are really pleased to agree to the reinstatement of new lineside photographers passes in 2018. The issue of passes was paused during 2017 whilst we assessed the safety implications. These have now been clarified and the full process will be published by the commercial office. The principal change is that in future, applicants will be required to pass the standard Personal Track Safety course held in house on the railway. Further details will be issued soon.

Lineside passes definitely not available at either the Weardale (County Durham) or the Dartmoor Railways

Passes on the ELR would be pointless as it's basically a free for all, for anyone with a high vis ! The only lineside patrols I've ever seen is a members walking the line with collection buckets. There's also the long standing rumour of the local council owning some of the track bed.

Correct! I've had the 'hi-vis brigade' jump over a fence in front of me and stand trackside where ever they like on the ELR.

    Cheers Fred.

I did get the photographers' guide when I signed up to a Lineside Permit at the Worth Valley back in 2014. But I didn't renew it after 2016.
