It looks more like a Class 11, going by the shape of the cab, and the cab front windows.

Does anyone know which merchant it went to? Would be a shame to see it scrapped, and in conversation with a loco owner last night, he expressed a provisional interest in trying to save it.

Perhaps contacting the LR Trust would be the best option? They will probably be aware of the buyer.

Presumably the buyer would be open to offers if it equals or exceeds the amount they can make in scrap.

The buyer may have made a mistake, overestimating the crane's value to him as scrap, possibly on the assumption of being able to cut it up in situ; but that is supposition. Considering that he is being very helpful, we should avoid making uncomplimentary comments about his nous.

I have fed that over; hope it can be saved. I assume the £11250 price was pre-fees+VAT.

Yes, pretty sure that it has 4'-0" wheels. There was an ex-ICI one on the Mid Hants many years ago, property of the late Jack Twyman. Don't know what happened to that - is it the same one?

That one helped build the Alton extension I believe and was sold on soon afterwards . Now at the NYMR in pseudo BR livery and numbered 12139.

I visited the railway at Winnington in the late 1970s. I recall that we were told that the shunters were more powerful than BR 08s, being equipped with 500hp engines.

Yes, it worked on the Ropley to Medstead stage. 08288 took care of the push from Alton.

I think they all had the same lump. Confusingly, they are rated at 400 hp, even though they are known as 350's (in Big Railway circles, possibly not among enthusiasts).

Thanks, I’ve corrected the original post. That’s predictive text for you. On an earlier posting it tried to suggest that the LR were extending to Cirencester rather than Corwen!

Joining up with the Swindon & Cricklade ? yep, predictive text, can really mess your day up, At least, the Llangollen will survive in some form, lets hope the lesson of what poor management and not being able to hold Directors to account can do to your railway will sink in now nationwide, luckily there are not many that are badly run, but imagine if the PLC had owned everything, down to the kitchen sink, how much worse could it have been,

It'd certainly justify fully restoring a rake of sleepers, if nothing else! ;)
