Interesting pics. I still find it hard to believe LUL are allowing this but well done to them for having the cojones to go ahead with it.

Baker St looks like it's going to be fun!, I think the biggest problem for those of us watching is going to be getting a clean shot.

Sunday's secret steam hauled passenger train on London Underground - videos

Last Sunday morning (Decem er 16), around 2am, Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T No. 1 ran from Ealing Common depot through to Moorgate. It hauled restored original Met coach No. 353 - which carried nearly 30 passengers. This made it the first steam-hauled passenger train over that part of the underground Metropolitan Railway route since 1905 - a marvelous achievement by London Transport Museum and London Underground. the passengers included sponsors of the forthcoming Met 150 celebrations and other VIP guests, and was a trial run to iron out any problems before the public steam services on Sunday January 13 and 20. The test run was a huge success.

I am posting my videos of the test run now at Heritage Railway Magazine | Facebook and as I have several, they will be spaced out over a few days, along with some still pictures, (I'm uploading them inbetween Christmas shopping) so it is worth rechecking the site. For those of you who don't like Facebook, they will be posted at www.heritagerailwayocom within the next 48 hours.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

I've just seen photos of the re-painted class 20 diesel 20189 ('L189') and I'm disappointed to see it wears 'bus red' rather than 'underground red'. The former is way too bright and garish whereas the latter (a fine maroon) would have complemented the older locos far better. I have to wonder who decides on these ill-advised paint schemes?!

The organisers have also found a Metropolitan Milk Van to form part of the stock for January too, according to Heritage Rail Mag. Should look rather good along with the Chesham set and coach no.353!

What is the train formation for the steam runs in January? Do they still need the flat wagon for water/coal? Is Sarah Siddons or the Class 20 going to be involved too?

    Re: LU 150 plans...

Following this latest news it will be some combination of the Jubilee carriage, the Bluebell's Chesham Set and the milk van, top and tailed by Met No1 and Sarah Siddons. While the emergency water supply may only be for the trial runs, presumably it could be carried in the milk van if necessary.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

The traffic notice has been uploaded to SE-gen yahoo group. Met No. 1, Chesham set, 353, milk van and Sarah Siddons. Pair of battery locos to run to Farringdon too. It also suggests there'll be a set of S stock sitting in the other platform at Moorgate, which will make photography there even more difficult.
