Is there anything else availible with Vac Brakes ?, I'd imagine the battery Loco's and the Class 20's are Air only.

I think at least one of the 20's is dual braked, i believe it was used for shunting the Chesham set when it arrived, but whether it could be used i'm not so sure. They've got a few days to sort out Sarah so i doubt there'll be a problem even if she has got a bit of a sore head...

Picture of Met 1 from last night at Earls Court. Picture isn't brillant as it's a camera phone. I'll resize if required?

Regarding the use of Class 20's, it'll all depend on whether they are route approved for the route, which they might not be at present (I believe this to be the case). That's not to say that an application could be being worked on at present. If anything does replace Sarah Siddons it'll be a battery loco.

Hopefully 12 can be sorted, but I don't see why a 20 would be an issue, if steam exhaust is acceptable, hopefully means there's a contingency just in case.

Get me a wrecking ball, a crane and we'll have 4-4-0T 23 simmering at Acton before you know it...

Yes, yes, she'll run. She's as good as she ever was. I'll stake my living on it!

Current central London weather forecast for Sunday is possible snow showers and icy temperatures. Might produce some interesting photos on the above ground sections.

It's rather disturbing I know what film that last paragraph is from and what part as well ;)

Not that I'm starting a "steam it bandwagon", but what sort of mechanical condition is 23 in ?, is it totally knackered and just given some fresh paint, or was it given the full monty prior to display ?.

ISTR that before the "Steam on the Met" more than 20 years ago, QRS were asked to assess 23 for potential return to steam. LTM decided it was not economically feasible. Don't unfortunately have details of what faults were found.

Just to follow up on a post re engineering works. There's a block on the east end of the district line all weekend which may include c2c whilst we renew drainage down at elm park. If its the same as before district line should be starting from barking.

Just found this from last night - Sarah Siddons pulling into Baker Street, then departing with a hefty shove from No1.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

Seeing the video of the dress rehearsal at Baker Street really brings home the magnitude of this series of trips - NR baulks at wooden stock, and slam doors without locks, but here we have an organisation that is exceedingly mindful of fire risks, yet it can see its way to allowing a steam loco to work hard underground, pulling wooden stock with non-lockable (I assume) slam doors! On top of this, all the stations' fire detection equipment (and there is lot of it) will have to be isolated for each trip, generating quite a bit of work for staff and engineers. It's a testament to proper, sensible risk assessment and top-level management who are both effective railway managers and fully aware of the importance of heritage and public interest being part of the railway world. Well done to all, and fingers crossed for a hitch-free operation.

    Well said.

What I can't understand is how they isolate the fire detection equipment and keep the stations open. But I'm happy not to know, and enjoy the show. Looking forward to seeing it on Sunday morning.

It even looks like the steam heat is on!

The doors are lockable, just not centrally, in the videos it does look like they aren't locking them.

    Re: LU 150 plans...

I very much doubt they would lock the doors externally: wasn't that a contributary cause of so many deaths at the Versailles train fire in the nineteenth century, after which the practice was outlawed? If you (God forbid) had a fire in the tunnel, you'd want to be able to open doors to get out. The Met carriages have rounded tops to the doors so they can be fully opened even in a tube tunnel.
