I know we are a little more than a week before this happens but motive power has not been announced for this one yet. Does Carnforth have any surprises in the waiting? Thanks

I got my tickets through for this on Tuesday & there's no mention of which loco we're getting on them either. It's also starting off from Carnforth 1.5hrs earlier than originally stated - I'll post the confirmed times when I get home tonight. It is a concern that with all of the cancellations going on at the moment with DBS Industrial issues that this tour may be affected too, although on the flip side it's leaving plenty of locos available.

This tour is a West Coast operation so it should not be affected by the DBS/ASLEF issues.

UK Steam appears to indicate 46115 if you drop the times box, nice to see its return if correct. Lineside rumour mill over the weekend featured 45699, but it is thought to be a liitle way off yet, and it would need the proving run this week first.

If 44932 is still at York and not required for the Sunday Waverley (45305?) might it be added as a means of moving to Carnforth on the return leg thus saving a separate move?

This would be deemed as common sense, and it seems that all too often common sense doesn't prevail in these circumstances :tongue1:

Hindsight being 20/20 would have made more sense for the test run this week to have been loaded being as it did the whole circuit which might have tested the repair more thoroughly. Assuming the same box run hot as before. Major disappointment for the punters and Trust. Maybe 44932 will make the return.

Didn't it fail at Hellifield for the same thing a few weeks ago? Not bad I suppose, 1 hour of steam haulage out of a full day's trip.
When I worked in the bus repair industry, if a job "bounced" back, especially straight away, questions were asked by the management & in some cases disiplinaries were handed out.

Indeed it did. Problem was suspected at Appleby northbound on the Waverley on 5/8 after a good climb, but we made it to Carlisle before it was removed. When SC is good, it's very good but this loco is not without its problems, it would seem. Someone on the Waverley trip told me, perhaps uncharitably, that when it returns from a day out, the support crew breathe a sigh of relief.

According to the train staff it's the same failure that had supposedly been fixed. A loaded test run would have made sense. Still sat at Hellifield. Driver had to get taxi back to Carnforth to collect diesel apparantly a 37 and they're now on the way luckily in front of the stopping service train. 46115 was disconnected some time back and has run round its support coach ready to run tf back to Carnforth @ 25mph apparantly. Also update on Galatea. According to a more talkative member of the train staff its first test run is looking very likely to be this year still as it's not far off. They're hoping to have Leander ready at roughly the same sort of time too. So nothing concrete but looking good.

Think wcr need to find out what Riley's do and try to emulate it in terms of maintaining stanier 4-6-0s. Riley's never fail and work very hard so there must be some good practice to learn from.

Isn't it Riley practice on his own Loco's to replace/renew parts when they start showing wear rather than waiting for them to become worn out ?, a good idea in theory but must cost a fair bit more than usual repairs, keep in mind Ian has extra income from all the contract work he does as well as what his loco's earn so possibly has more income to implement such a strict maintenence regime.
