    As I write this, the 2016 Maitland Steamfest should be winding down. It has featured four steam locomotives and several vintage POTS (power other than steam) units.

    From ARHS (ACT Div)
    3016TS, 4-6-0, Beyer Peacock built crca 1903
    6029, 4-8-4+4-8-4, Beyer Peacock built 1954
    POTS 4807, Co Co, Goodwin ALCO 1959

    From LVR
    5917, 2-8-2, Baldwin Lima Hamilton built 1952
    POTS 4204, Co Co, Clyde GM EMD 1956

    From THNSW
    3642, 4-6-0, Clyde Engineering 1926
    POTS 4001, A-1-A A-1-A, MLW ALCO 1951
    POTS 4490, Co Co, Goodwin ALCO 1965
    POTS 4520, Co Co, Goodwin ALCO 1963

    Sunday (today) featured a quadruple parallel run/race twixt the steam locomotives and a DH Tiger Moth (or two) over approximately 15 miles from Hanbury Junction (just west of Newcastle0 to Maitland.

    I decided to set up at Metford for my shot of the Great Train Race, which turned out to be not the place to go if you wanted to record a scene of all four locos lined up close to each other. As they came over the rise from Thornton they seemed to be lined pretty well, but the gallop down the hill really stretched out the positioning. I've already seen some superb images recorded around East Maitland which shows that the four trains had regrouped by the time they reached that location, and I'm looking forward to see what the views were like from some of the bridges further east from Metford.
