I do agree with Saggin dragon on another forum someone went of about "the youth of today" and I pointed out that we're not all like that!

However, in this case, from what I've read, this chap seems to have blatantly ignored advice and evidence shows that his two previous schemes never really got off the ground, so what do you expect when another comes along from the same place? Can't say I blame anyone for.viewing this latest project with scepticism given the circumstances, I won't be holding my breath, despite the fact I'd love to see one!

i dont think anyone should try and discourage the youngsters from trying something new. a lot of the current 'preserved' steam fleet will require extensive work to get them running again - and arguably a 'new build' to an established and well proven design will require not a lot of extra effort or finance compared to certain 'preserved locos'.
there are quite a lot of 'preserved locos' that to return to steam again require new boilers and cylinders etc.
    cheers,
    julian

  3. So you know for sure, are 100% certain that this is Stuart Reeders project? as I said in an earlier post I am not and there is no evidence to suggest that he is either.

I am going to on to the facebook page today and ask for the names of those behind the project, and if Stuart is part of it? then we will know for sure.

Can we please just let all this drop now? A little perspective is required, this is a collection of tiny projects (if they even deserve the title) which may or may not get off the ground. You would think these lads are going to have some big negative impact on other projects just because they put up a facebook page....really? Will it suddenly stop the P2 project, or the Patriot? No. I doubt if many of these ideas have reached the pages of Steam Railway, which would be a good indicator of how 'mainstream' they are, yet the amount of interest on this forum is out of all proportion!

    Al,

I am just saying we know there are currently several Facebook pages relating to new build locos by a certain group of people. They have been discussed ad infinitum and debated as if they were serious projects or preservation's devil incarnate and everything in between.

If you are a member of the new Atlantic build at the Bluebell it is clearly a 'going concern' so feel free to discuss it as much as you like; I (and I assume the eight other people who have liked my previous post in the last three hours) just believe the discussion of the particular 'projects' I mentioned above has rather run its course.

No, Andy. No connection and my earlier post (now deleted to avoid confusion) was actually just a different way of agreeing with your #64. And as for the Atlantic project, I wish them well and thought this thread could be a devious way of me giving it a little airing away from its own thread.

Sorry I hadn't read that earlier post properly, no I don't, I was simply taking information from some previous posts which indicated it was, I hadn't spotted that it wasn't confirmed, will be interested to find out though, then we can finally put this to bed if it is him by the sounds of it.

The trouble is many of these things do get into "Steam Beano" . As you are probably aware I feel that many of the projects which appear to be run by competent people are in themselves misguided as to their choice of prototype so in concurring with your desire to let all this drop now I am not favouring any scheme in particular!

Well I never created the j39 group that was tim Clarke , I'm nothing to do with this L1 group , the only group I'm doing is dean goods locomotive group of which I have 2 people that are machinists and someone from Swindon and cricklade railway and someone with new build experience , to which I am listening to his advise etc

Hopefully now this thread can be about this l1 and nothing else now if you want to talk about something else make a thread about it.

I have just discovered that at least one person involved in the L1 group has a substantial record in preservation including new build and repatriation projects.

Worthless statement then. Might as well say the Loch Ness Monster is the Treasurer

It's not up to me to identify said person, but I think that the information that an experienced preservationist was involved is pertinent.

Almost sounds like a potential name for a P2..."Loch Ness Monster is the Treasurer"

I do think it would have been better had you not mentioned this at all, if the identity cannot be made public.
