    Was there plans to extend the running line to Pye Bridge some year's ago?
    What went wrong and why has it gone quiet ? :painkiller:

    Well I think finishing the diesel depot and Syston station building are higher up the list than extending atm. Iwould imagine the museum site at Swanwick attracts more people than it's length so best improve that and declutter it first.

    They have to prioritise and consider whether it would bring in extra visitors or help them connect with the local community.

    A slight complication is that the site of Pye Bridge station is over the River Erewash in Nottinghamshire, so that's a whole new set of people to be dealing with.

    Tony: Is the site secure though, I presume it would be the goods yard of the former MR station?

    Havn't been there since the 1960's, so I assume the area railway-wise has changed considerably. Was an interesting place though, with adjacent stations of different names (Pye Bridge, MR, and Pye Hill & Somercoates, GNR) and industrial tank engines at the colliery exchange sidings. If you walked up the hill away from the valley floor there was the Stanton & Staveley industrial system.
