I've recently purchased a 600mm gauge Moes diesel locomotive. It was delivered to the Old Kiln Light Railway on Sunday, where it will be resident for at least a few years while it is restored.

Moes didn't allocate works numbers, so the full history of the loco is unknown. It was probably built around 1955 and spent its working life in a brickworks near Rumpst in Belgium. It seems to have carried the name "Walter" at some stage in its life. It was purchased by Roger Craven around 2007 and stored in a private location near Colchester.

The loco is complete, but needs an overhaul and cosmetic restoration. Picture of the delivery at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/crowquine/sets/72157650178481226/

Congratulations on the purchase, like your photos by the way. The OKLR is a superb little line. I saw the two Moes for sale on Steve Thomason's website and was tempted - but best restrict myself to one 2 foot diesel for now! Be good to hear some updates as you restore. Paul

Thanks Paul. Yes, I found the Moes on the ad on Steve Thomason's excellent site. The folks down at the OKLR are extremely friendly, and I can't wait to take the Moes for a spin. Updates will definitely be forthcoming.

Well done Dan. Should be at Tilford on Easter Saturday for the toy steam event, will your engine be on show?

Any thoughts yet on the really important question - what colour will it be?! ;)

    Hi Sean,

Not sure about "on show" but definitely will be "on shed". I'm not sure what my plans are at Easter, but if I'm around I'd be happy to show you the loco.

    Felix,

The colour is indeed an important question. I'll probably go with green, but haven't entirely decided yet!

An update on my Moes BL/Deutz loco, which is now approaching the end of a restoration to working order at Statfold Barn. First run was this weekend. Bodywork is off, being repainted into green.

Very smart! I don't know about painting it green, you could chrome plate that.....

Have in the past driven the Maldegem example (re-engined, I seem to think) and liked it a lot.

Well done - looks great Dan. You've jogged me with needing to share work on my machine - look forward to more pictures!
