Having just seen my foorball team lose, I'm turning to railways again and wondering if there is any help out there on this... I was returning home on the M25 just west of the M1 junction when I saw briefly in the gloom (about 20.50) an engine on the clockwise (on a lowloader of course ! ) Looked like a 2-6-0 tender engine probably black but with the clear no 88 on the cabside.
No more info I'm afraid cos I was doing 70 on anticlockwise so could only 'spot' it. Any offers ???

That will be the S&DJR 2-8-0 from the West Somerset Railway, as for where it is going - pass!

Although I see 4160 was being taken to Ilford for tyre turning, perhaps it is 88's turn.

    Regards,

    Dan

Thanks for that, Dan. Its not going to be bothering me any more now that I know what it was. In fact, I've made a quick visit to the WSR web site which mentions use of the engine during their Winter meeting but no mention of the plan to take a run round the M 25 !!!

Its quite surprising how many road movements have to be made to keep an engine fit. I believe its to do with the cost of rail movement against road. Crazy !!

    Cheers

  4. I understand No 88 has been to Ilford for wheel-turning (just as No 4160 did recently). Sorry no mention on www.wsr.org.uk - I was waiting for some piccies (none arrived :-( ).

Hope you weren't waiting for 'piccies' from me , Steve. I was on the opposite carriageway M25, doing 70 (yep, speed limit!) in the pitch dark. lol

Just make sure your engines don't come back with white stilettos instead.

It is back at Minehead now.
I spent a happy morning cleaning all the salt off of the footplate a few weeks back.
