My wife and I are hoping to visit the NYMR on Wednesday and catch the 10:10 from Goathland to Whitby. Does anyone know which loco is likely to be operating that service? Any other recommendations while we're at the railway/in the area?

    Thanks

    Keith

Probably one of 45212, 61264 or 76079. Too early to know till Tuesday evening. It will be the loco that takes the 17.45 off Grosmont that day.

Go have some Whitby kippers, and the chips from various shops are often rated the best in the country too, try the abbey for something to look at, in between copious amounts of Yorkshire bitter and chips of course ;)

A visit Whitby must also include stopping at Boothams if you are into locally made cakes, biscuits and various types of fruit loaves.

You can do that at both ends of the line as thee is a Bothams just opposite Pickering station. If you're wanting a good meal try the Horseshoe Inn at Levisham. Don't try walking from the station unless you're fit, though!

Only definite is that it will not be 45212 as it is now en route to Southall via York.

When arriving in Whitby, walk and take the entrance behind the buffer stops and past the Indian Restaurant. Cross road at the traffic lights and walk down side street with a pub on your left. Turn left here and Royal Fisheries are on your right. Some of the best Fish and Chips there in town. Always easy for those near the station.

Can recommend Sherlocks Coffee House, for Sandwiches, Cakes etc. Its up the hill on the path away from the swing bridge, directly opposite the bridge on the town side. Easy to find on the left up the hill behind mountain warehouse.

    Some good pubs too!

If you do not mind the climb try the Whitby brewery next to the Abbey.
