NYMR Whitby - Battersby

Hi,
With the current Whitby - Battersby trains set to cease when the bridge reopens, does anyone know if and when there will be more NYMR trains along the Esk Valley?

 

Trains usually run to Battersby at Gala events, although the timetable is not yet set for the Spring 2010 Event. They can only run when there is no Sunday service on the Esk Valley branch, which is between the September and May timetable changes. We are also looking at extending the Spring Gala by a weekend at the end which would involve the shortly to be revealed additional guest being used Grosmont (or Whitby) to Battersby.

If you want a chance to have a steam train ride above 25mph without the time and expense of a railtour, then the next 3 Sundays are your chance! I am down to Guard on 7th and 21st, so please feel free to introduce yourself as a fellow NP member!

Thanks for this. I'm on sales stand duty at the NNR gala on the 14th and it's our AGM on the 21st so it will have to be this Sunday by the looks of it. That means no MHR gala for me unless I wait until the NYMR Spring Gala in the hope of Battersby trains then. Decisions, decisions. Any idea what's rostered on the 7th?

It has been 30926 Repton so far this year (except the immediate New Year) - I am up at the Moors tomorrow and will check. The other alternative is 76079.

30926 would be very nice as I've never been behind a Schools on the main line. 76079 wouldn't exactly be new haulage for me. Somebody told me trains are topped and tailed as there are no run round facilities at Battersby. Would appear this is duff gen.

 

There is run round facilities at Battersby as Repton ran round last Sunday. Was a great trip.

 

Hoping to get down for 21st & put a face to the name at last.

Yes, there is run round at Battersby - some trains topped and tailed at Christmas due to snow - the point that changes for Nunthorpe or Glaisdale was blocked with snow the day Bridge 30 arrived!

The system of shunt release key at Battersby is a joy to behold - but not always to operate. it can "time-out" very easily and in the early days after it was installed, on a number of occasions, workings "disappeared" into Battersby and took ages to get out again - hence the area became known as the "Battersby Triangle"! Thankfully, the system seems to know to behave when NYMR Operating Manager Norman Hugill is involved!

Definite plan for Sunday is 30926 Repton - checked with the Traction & Rolling Stock Engineer today. I also understand that former Gateshead Depot Manager Stuart Whitter will be on the regulator.

Thanks for this. Still hope to be there but the car's developed a problem with its headlights and driving back to Bedfordshire will involve driving in the dark for the last bit of the journey. Hopefully I can get it sorted for Sunday.
