You would have thought someone would have noticed if the real one had been exported!

It would be interesting to know to what extent it could be considered a replica - is it all fibreglass & plywood or something more substantial?

Well, I've just had dealings with the shipyard that built not one, but 3 'Flying Dutchman' ships for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films - let's just say that if a Hollywood studio wanted to, I'm sure that a complete, fully certificated, new steam locomotive could be constructed in a VERY short space of time. Dead easy if money's no object ;)

It looks to me like a very very good mock up. After studying a couple of photographs of the same loco and pretty much the same angle. I think the slide bars give it away as they are very thin in the picture than on the loco itself.

I bet that mock up cost a few quid more than Cogan Hall !

If they have built a mock up of the loco, what about coaches? I haven't heard of them buying real Mark 1s so I bet the mock-ups have cost a fortune more than they could have bought real ones for! Mind you, they would then have to get them to the US (or would they - I believe a handful of Mark 1s are "Lost in America"....)

And have they built a replica of Hogsmeade Station (or Kings Cross....)

heres a thought, once the very last potter film has been shot, if it already hasnt , will the engine be painted back into BR/GWR livery , or stay as it is in the chance of possible future work if warner bros decide to make some more films to keep interest and their profits coming in

Here's a pic of the real Olton Hall in July 2009 at Paddington.

I think there are minor differences around the front end detail that mean it's not the real engine in Florida. Thank goodness!!!

The company contracted to build the attraction were asking around the UK a couple of years ago for 4-6-0 locos that might be for sale. to my knowledge they did not get one, if they had i'm sure it would have been on here and dicussed at depth!!

Various details give it away as a mock up. As mentioned - the pony wheels don't look quite right in terms of the pattern of the spokes and insides of the tyres. To be honest though - it's one hell of a mock up if the photos are anything to go by. Makes you wonder how they did it - technically I mean, not whether it's fibreglass or whatever? Laser scan the original 5952? Even the finish looks real, with the weathered 'greasy clean' look. No doubt it was a 'money no object' exercise, but all credit to WB for ensuring the replica is so damn near close to the real thing.

I do wonder how much was spent though. And whether the obvious alternative was explored - that being the cosmetic restoration, and shipping, of an unrestored 'ex Barry' Hall from the UK...?

It's got to be a mock up! They have done an awesome job. On par with 'The Queen' 4-2-2 at Windsor and Eton Station.

Have any other fakes ever been made?

My guess is that it'll stay red. Whens the overhaul due. The money from the Potter films must be enough to overhall her
