Whilst waiting for the drainage at the accommodation crossing to be sorted attention has turned to the laying of track in the centre road of Oswestry station. Plus other updates and details of the Mothering Sunday trains.

    Details on the blog.

You asked about a 3rd road on a Heritage line.
We came near in providing a 3rd road in Whitby station but it is added to the National railway rather than to the NYMR
Although it is mainly our services that use it.

Indeed Whitby came to mind as did the original plan for Leicester North. I can't think of any others but I am sure someone on here will be able to identify a standard gauge heritage railway which was on the national network with a centre road through the platforms.

Brechin; the original BR layout had a centre release road between two terminal platforms. Maybe someone familiar can say how it is in preservation.

Isn't Whitby just a run-round for p2 rather than a release road as such? Shame the GCR didn't pursue the Leicester North project, seems a shame to end up with what looks like less than the original Belgrave & Birstall had to offer, but that's for a different thread!

Whitby never had a central release road in BR days and earlier, simply a central carriage siding.

Yes Brechin looks to have a centre release road. Well done! I knew the collective wisdom of Nat Pres would come up with an answer.

The thought started fron views of the station in BR days and how big it looked. I could not find any others but as already stated Brechin has three roads and is also a Terminus, so Oswestry in not unique. In the preservation era I thought that I had seen plans for Kidderminster with a centre road layout and Leicester North was planned with that in mind but the folk at the north end of the GCR won that battle.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.

This week has seen further track laid in the centre road, the next panel will take us to between the platforms. That will be a first since the track was lifted following the closure of the line to passenger traffic.

Details and pictures on the blog.

It will be a small rural station dominated by the goods shed. There will be displays about the history and goods traffic. Still lots of work to go but things are starting to move.

More track laid and a temporary connection has been made to beyond the cattle creep to help with movement of items to and from Weston.
The big news today is that according to local politicians the A5 is to be dualled past Oswestry. However like all news from politicians it should be treated as an indication not a confirmed fact.
Edit: The section under consideration would not include the CHR crossing so more waiting needed.

I wonder how far North of Oswestry that will go; it would make sense if it joined up with the dual section of the A483 at Ruabon.
