Amazing stuff Ploughman, thanks for posting it, all the better for not being staged as part of an event. I love the way the 44932 crew responded to being overtaken :) :whip:

Hmmmm...... now 'engine & van' movements are limited to 50mph so they must have put the brake in on the 'Brit', no?

do two coaches not constitute a train ? in which case the 5 could do 60... ?
Fabulous bit of film, pity no one on the 5 had a video...

How easy would it be to have arranged two 'closely matched' trains (on different tours) departing york at the same time ?.... dosnt bear thinking about

I think you'll find that Light Engine moves with support coach are now permitted to run at 60 mph,

Yes. The Black 5 crew deserve a standing ovation for doing what they did there.

And that lineside sequence. Talk about right place, right time!

I still have the original video of this, bought at the time. If I remember correctly I had to pre-order it at one of the many events going on the late 80's.
Shame 34092 has virtually disappeared off the face of the planet.

I believe it was this run that caused a few problems as 34092 reached such a speed that the class 33 couldn't keep up...

Don't think there were any "problems" as such. I believe Salisbury Area Manager (Gerald Daniels) can be heard requesting the 33 Driver to accelerate further but seem to recall you can't hear clearly the Driver's response - which was, inter alia, that it was doing it's top speed of 85mph already [hauling just the SR General Manager's saloon] and the 33's governor wouldn't allow faster speed!
City of Wells just purred past so haven't a clue what it's top speed was on that occasion. Impressive! Hope it's back on the main line soon.

A train is everything forward of the tail lamp, so a light engine constitutes a 'train'.

The highlight of my year used to be the parallel running on 'Steam on the Met'. I think it used to be the first departures of the day from Harrow on the Hill. One going to Watford and the other to Amersham.
