Plymouth Barbican

Discussie in 'Steam Traction' gestart door fireboxchaser, 14 mrt 2009.

Does anyone know of any photos or video footage of workings on the old Plymouth Barbican?

I have fond childhood memories of seeing such workings. (yes I am that old!)

Sorry can't help with photos but even now there is evidence of Broad Gauge (actually dual gauge) track set into the surface of at least one of the quay sides. From memory this includes at least one point. (explored may 2008).

Not bad for something abandoned in 1892!

Well you learn something new every day! I spent many a happy evening there in the late '70s and never noticed any broad gauge track - may be there were other things on my mind then! Where abouts are these track remains on the Barbican?

Although I can't help you with any photos of workings around Sutton Harbour, as my office is right on the quayside I can confirm a fair amount of track is still inset in the cobbles - or at least it was as I walked down the 'four-foot' at half seven this morning!

  8. Many thanks for this. I have fond memories of walking around the Barbican with my parents (dad was born and bred in Plymouth) and seeing locos rolling by. No health and safety then eh!
