On the wider RTC front, I see that on their site, the interesting GB Vll is still advertised as finishing with a run down the WCML to Euston when it will actually return down the ECML to Kings Cross. Presumably if you are able to shell out £2k for the trip, the detail is immaterial. So with the arrival of 2014 "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" in respect of updating the site and accuracy. I also hope that the owners of Duchess of Sutherland know that it will be running as 46229!

I spoke to Nigel again today and he had high hopes of Boulby and maybe another bit of v rare track

If this RTC 2014 has sniping galore I will not be posting updates

Perhaps the mods could have a "smart Alec comment" thread and keep the Operator ones for info only. One or two of us would post a LOT more hot news but sometimes wonder why we bother

The 2013 overseas tours run by several operators incl RTC were v v v successful. Changes have to be made but criticism is far rarer. I hope Nigel doesn't get so annoyed that he stops rare track trips as I need some myself. He was cross this morning!

Btw the Welsh Valley trip-in which I have been involved- is far from confirmed but every effort is being made. Or was.....
Please please think v v v hard before posting clever, obvious comments.
Pm Nigel direct or email the office if you think its important. He is a member of Nat Pres and an enthusiast

Rant over! Happy steamy New Year to all. No PM to me please as work is busy just now and don't take offence or take my comments personally at what's been written but maybe ask" will this post result in MORE RTC Steam tours..........before pressing Send!!!

Once the loco allocations for the Winter CME'S are known ,please can you post here. Hoping that 46115 is allocated to at least one.

    Thanks

Ditto from me re the Winter CME loco info when known please. These trips seldom fail to deliver a good day and the London start keeps options open for everyone to get to them. They deserve to fill well.

Booked on both the Esk Valley and Wansbeck. Both contain copious amounts of winning tack for me. Haulage behind two different steam locos in one day for £79 over an interesting route is a pretty good deal.

I'd love to go on one of the Weymouth trips, but in previous years they have always run on Sundays. (I don't travel on railtours on Sundays) I wonder if one or two could be run on another day. e.g. bank holidays?

Just started to see how I can get to the Wansbeck (a really adventurous trip) from down south and it looks pretty tricky. NR says it has engineering work over Sat/Sun north of York so hopefully things will be clear for this to go as planned.

Work and other commitments mean that Sundays are the only days I can do rail tours without having to make all sorts of arrangements. Sadly the weather and a disagreement between two control centres scuppered my attempts to get steam haulage to Weymouth in 2013 so hoping for better luck in 2014.

Shouldn't think it will be too much of a problem as the work is scheduled to start on the Saturday evening at 22:00.

That a businessman, enthusiast or not, should take offence at anything posted on an (almost) public forum bemuses me. Providing clear and accurate information about proposed tours on this and other fora is in the RTC's interest.

It is a win win for us all if RTC provide updates here, and are able to take ideas from here to use in tours.

Don't bite the hand that feeds and all...

It's your forum and is what you make of it.

As the poster says, if you have a complaint try taking it up with the man himself, rather than using the forum as first port of call.. You never know you may be made happy.. And if he does don't forget to share it here to.

Personally, and as a moderator, I prefer to see the updates and back door 1st for news stories, its fun to know what's happening in advance, than to have to put my head in my hands as I move half dozen posts to the bin following complaints.

Whinger or winner.. You decide that when you press "post reply"

With bank holidays NR have a tendency to have one of their "trackless" days.

I totally agree. If Nigel spent less time getting "cross" and "annoyed",and more time in ensuring that his website was updated in a timely and accurate manner, then that would be to the benefit of everyone. If there is some "hot news", well why not stick it on the website ASAP? Many months ago,it seemed that RTC had started emailing haulage updates ,but this now seem to have stopped sadly.

I do hope that this will not be classified as a "clever", "obvious" or "smart alec" comment!!

Equally , not all posters are knowledgeable on matters of operating and running railtours on the national network . sensitivity on both sides is needed . Above all as a Forum we would like Nigeland Ray posting on behalf of RTC . be factual , not emotional in postings and lets treat each other with some respect

I've booked for the Welsh Borders on 17th May. Rostered for 34046. I'm really looking forward to it. Would have gone on last year's trip with 34067 were it not for being only a week after travelling Vintage Trains' epic Cheltenham Flyer with 5043. My finances sadly do not stretch to two main line trips on adjacent weeks! For me, the "Welsh Borders" itinerary has everything - serious hill-climbing to Sapperton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Colwall Tunnel and Llanvilhangel, good opportunities for fast running, an interesting destination (Worcester) and some lovely scenery. I just hope it all goes to plan. Shame so little steam runs on the Worcester-Malvern-Hereford line, as there's a long stretch of semaphore signalling thrown in for good measure. Still, when I raised this on a Vintage Trains-related thread, Bob Meanley himself kindly explained that platform alterations had reduced clearances on this section, rendering more historically appropriate motive power (i.e., Castles) out of gauge. Still, I for one won't be turning up my nose at 34046.
