It could be about water conservation given the very short time allowed at Winchfield. The driver was Bill Monteith and he knows his stuff, did a brilliant job with 28 on the ACE back in July.

It looks like it is going to be heavily delayed on the return. The positioning move of the loco and stock from the Depot has not gone ahead yet according to RTT:

42 late leaving Bristol - could have been worse, I imagine. Here's another video still from this morning (I've removed one lamp-post from in front of the train, BTW) - the video is still in production!

After getting back on the train at Bath, we were informed that along with the problems between Bath and Bristol, we were informed of the problems at Bathampton Junction (where we're sat waiting now), as well as being told that the Midland Pullman charter was put in the wrong siding at Bristol East which caused delays with 6233 being serviced.

I'm not being critical of any crew members or anyone connected with the operation; I just wondered if there was an edict to go easy with 6233. BTW, the time allowed at Winchfield for watering was not enough yesterday or again today, judging by the time spent there in both cases (12 minutes allowed today, but 20 taken).

We moved our family meet up to Saturday from Sunday a few weeks ago when it looked like Tangmere and Duchess of Sutherland would both be running, in the end just the Duchess but it was certainly worth while. Video and photos from a winter wonderland at Trumps Mill Lane in the sub zero tempratures as she opens up under the bridge, then later crusing through Hook...

I went out for the return trip of 46115 this evening.

I was expecting it to stroll leisurely through Alnmouth Station, given that it was scheduled to be looped at Wooden, only half a mile or so south of me. When I heard the roar as it crossed the 18 Arches viaduct over the River Aln just north of me I started to suspect something was amiss.

46115 came through going like the clappers, loop cancelled.

Unfortunately I was back in the house with 10 minutes to spare before the football kicked off. Scots-Guardsman-(4)-fbook.jpg Scots-Guardsman-(17)-fbook.jpg

46115 was in fine voice throughout the day. There was a light dusting of snow in Scotland, and no doubt the temperature would have rewarded hardy lineside photographers. It was great to see the wintry scenery of the north end of the ECML.

The Scot sounded great on the coastal section north of Berwick with little assistance from the Diesel, pity the light went before the train arrived.

Here's my footage of 6233 Duchess of Sutherland in perfect winter conditions on her way to Bath and Bristol yesterday. I filmed her at Bapton near Warminster and Newton St Loe near Bath. I hope you enjoy the video.

An enjoyable trip to Bath (where the bulk of passengers got off), despite the various problems that arose across the network (on top of the ones I mentioned previously, we were held outside Clapham Junction on the outward leg due to a signal fault at Feltham as well). We got back to Victoria 20L, helped by only taking 3 minutes at Westbury rather than 25, and the loco filled up enough at Salisbury so not much was needed at the Fleet water stop on the return.

In regard to Diesel usage, whilst not an expert, I was in Coach H (the 2nd to last in the consist) and it only seemed to really be used to give a shove after stoppages (as seen in Deepgreen's video above), otherwise the Duchess seemed to be running well to me at least.
