As some on here may already know, the Rother Valley Railway recently acquired the Old turntable from Hither Green MPD
They are appealing for further information about this turntable, as it was manufactured by Ransomes and Rapier in 1926, however the depot at Hither Green did not open until 1933, the obvious question being where did the turntable reside in the meantime?
If anyone knows, information would be gratefully received

R&R archives were most probably "Maxwelled" (Cap'n Bob..) in the early 1980's when he closed them down. Several employees did "rescue" things which have slowly appeared out of the woodwork to be deposited at the ITM, but not sure if anything there is relating to turntables.

Thanks for the info re. R&R archives. Looks like it'll be a struggle.

It might be worth e-mailing the Ipswich Transport Museum, just in case they have anything. I know lots of things have "appeared" over the past 25 years, but it may relate to more recent production items - ie mobile cranes, draglines etc. Not sure whether R&R thinned out their archives in the past though, so items could have gone to the likes of the Suffolk Record Office. Ipswich Museum did get several large scale models of equipment - most, if not all, of which are now on display at the ITM.
Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies (the other big local engineering firm) certainly did put a lot of their archives elsewhere, both at the SRO and the University of Reading.

As well as ITM , the Suffolk Records Office has considerable amounts of paperwork from R & R.

Many thanks, both of you, I'll pass that on.
