Oil firing, or more likely, conversion to diesel power has been mentioned elsewhere.....

Whatever route is taken in coming up with an "alternative fuel source" one wonders whether the cost of carrying out that work is actually viable on a seasonal, cross-lake, service. I'm assuming it is still doing 2 round trips a day, which was the case when I travelled on it in 2011, and on that occasion it was purely utilised by vehicle traffic on US Route 10, bridging the gap over the lake. I seemed to be the only "joyrider" doing a round trip on it, and certainly the only person who bothered to venture out on deck!
