A large headlight on the smokebox door might look good, and have public appeal.

    Or 'Rio Grande Bronte'

The Headlamp would certainly say Polar express/Santa special to most... (Lickey Banker to others ?)

That's disappointing, the most appealing part of S160's is making a racket when given some.

Perhaps, from a nicely-built but hopelessly draughted Swindon-esque perspective...

They stopped calling Kids Rio when he moved to manchester...erm the Dark side

So having turning their S160 in fictitious BR colours. How about turning their British WD 2-8-0 in LNER O7 livery as the first ran in that colour scheme and were fleeting numbered in the 6XXXX range used for Eastern/North Eastern region machines.

That's not a bad idea should it need some more paint before it's ticket is up.

Well I think it looks absolutely terrible and those behind it should be brought to account for the desecration of such a livery on something as aesthetically ugly as an S160

Totally agree, it should have been a 1960's BR logo.

May be but you must agree it looks better for being painted in black though. When I last saw this locomotive, going back many many years ago, it was in that horrible USA Transportation Corps grey livery and always seem to be the working loco on the line all the time, so visits to KWVR were restricted because of it! Could send it back to the States would be a good idea or I know of a final resting place at Liverpool Docks though for onward transportation to China! :))))))

How parochial - reflects the British enthusiasts love of the bland! :p Given a choice between a Stanier 8F and an S160 on the front of a freight I know which I would prefer. Given the S160s sphere of operations worldwide the British 'military exports' were short lived and did not stray far from Europe. And it also deserves a place in our historical collections as representative of a type that worked on our railway system. I think the Chinese have enough scrap locos for their furnaces, including a few S160s.

Well i think it looks good, after all its a what if, isnt it? what if some had been purchased by any of the big 4 after the war? one was at longmoor till the 1950's i believe but it makes you think about it?
An S160 working hard is certainly something i wont forget, or the nathan chime, with a driver willing to give one stick, it beats a brit on the noise stakes , quite easy to fire, once you got the knack, only down side was the very poor riding, the old ex MHR one used to rock you side to side and up and down at the same time
