Probably getting a slot through Oxford Road etc is problematic whereas via Victoria it's not.

No ! When on a recent Dalesman tour the WCRC coach steward was adamant that no heads should be out of the window - even in the loop at Carnforth where there was about 10 feet between the train and the running line. Said steward noted that any reports by passing train crew of "heads out of the coach windows" could result in penalties being imposed on train operators by ORR hence LSL now putting bars on windows to prevent such activity.

    Are LS really doing that?
I recall that happening years ago after someone was killed videoing out of a train at Conwy tunnel. They disappeared after an outcry about making passengers look like hooligans or football supporters ( who were causing REAL problems at the time).
The ORR should be getting off the backs of the railways and addressing the real mayhem on the roads.

Considering two people have been killed in recent years by sticking their heads out of the windows, you can see why they're concerned by it.

Thanks for that as I sort of knew the outline times so I assume it will probably run similar to the last run around the coast .

This week has not been a good week for Oswald and steam; Tuesday's outbound Pendle Dalesman resulted in a good soaking then at the very last minute I had to abandon plans to watch the return (in dry weather) because of a pressing family matter. I gave up on my plan to watch the returning White Rose climb up towards Summit because of incessant rain. Thursday's chance to "grab" an outbound Dalesman was a non-starter because of a pre-arranged delivery. Saturday was my final hope - a last chance saloon!

The forecast was poor, a band of rain spreading in from the west arriving around 9 am. The Lakelander was scheduled to pass through Leyland about 10 minutes before 9, but Leyland lies a few miles to the west of Wistle Towers, would the rain arrive a little sooner? A steam-starved Oswald had no choice but to risk it. I loaded my stuff into the car and sallied forth. Part way into the journey it began to drizzle but nearer Leyland it stopped. But would it remain dry, the sky was an even steely-grey colour and didn't look too threatening - fingers crossed.

I had decided on the south end of the down fast platform; it gives the best view south and with no chance of being "bowled" . Of course, when I arrived someone had already grabbed the spot but there was a space between him and the platform edge - it was a little closer to the edge than I would have liked but I reckoned I could set up safely. I positioned my tripod straddling the yellow line and using a bracket I offset my iphone a little nearer to the action. I then stood behind the yellow line with my outstretched left arm (the good one) keeping a firm grip on the tripod.

Suddenly the train came into view bearing down at a great rate of knots, under the road bridge, a blast on the whistle and Braunton shot past, the carriages whooshed by in seemingly continuous bands of cream and carmine, then the 47 and it was all over save for a swirling vortex of air left in its wake. Within seconds the first drops of rain began to fall, I packed up and hurried back to the car and it has rained steadily ever since.

RT and a touch over 70 mph. So was it worth it to see a steam loco rushing downhill for just a few seconds, such a "Brief Encounter"? Back in Wistle Towers with Mrs W, my very own Celia Johnson, I have to say - you bet it was!

Always a thrill to see a steam locomotive travelling at 70+ mph. Braunton charges north towards Leyland station at around 71/2 mph with the outbound Lakelander. I must reiterate that I remained behind the yellow line and retained a firm grip on my tripod (stop it!) which straddled the line, despite this my iphone got a good buffeting. The video starts with Braunton reaching the distant overbridge which is almost 0.7 miles away before passing the the camera only 34/5 seconds later.

Braunton was travelling so quickly that the photographers on the opposite platform had to check that they had caught her on camera. Just a few seconds after my pic was taken the EARLY running TP Edinburgh to Manchester Airport shot through this platform. Had it been another minute early the photographers would have had nothing to show!

Is there is nowhere a man can hide in this modern world? As you can see there is not enough hair to part. Tripod is nearer than I thought, I did start with it further back however, feet are ok - just! And it caught me waving to the driver - no wave back though.
