I see on the WVRC site that this is running again this year on last year's route but no further details this early in the year
On a gen group someone is claiming this will be the last year it runs due to government cut backs. His logic being that HMG is giving less money to TOCs thus NR are making no money from SSE and it will not run in 2012 as a result. All very bizarre reasoning IMHO.

If the NRM get their hands on it, and run 2 x york to scarborough like they did 3/4 years ago, with 4472 then happy days.

Stopped doing it as did not fancy the long layover in scarborough, we did however when 4472 was used before withdrawal.

In 2011, SSE will be much the same as last year, subject to formal offer of paths. No truth in it being under threat, unless we decide it's not making money. As far as cut-backs are concerned, we receive no subsidy, so it's irrelevant. Some people don't half come up with some rubbish (no, not you, Ian!)!

Not sure what the reference about the NRM "getting their hands on it" means, as the SSE is a WCR operation.

Thanks James. I was tempted to tell the OP elsewhere that I thought he was talking rubbish but decided to hold my fire and let him get on with it.

So it looks like this year will be much the same as last, with the Flyers, CME's, NWCE's etc operating from Liverpool, Manchester & Crewe. Can't be bad.

And will be a lot better if every photographing linesider takes at least one paying trip during the season.

This year will be interesting , the public sector job cuts come through , those in work will continue to endure pay freezes and job uncertainty , whilst prices continue to rise .

Whilst I don't want to paint a picture of doom , this will be a very interesting year

£80 for the pleasure of being able to photograph all the steam we have running main line these days is a small price to pay. You don't even have to go on the tour, just book, pay, then go out to phot knowing you have done your bit.

Last year I was questioning the cost of railtours, specifically the Torbay Express. So did I go on a Torbay run? Of course I did, as I will this year. And probably a Weymouth trip. There’s nothing quite like the exhilaration of steam on the main line.

Good to see other people wanting to put something back into the business be it travelling on the trip or perhaps to the loco group..... and speaking of giving back something, Can I mention the very decent video chaps who put togther a DVD of thier efforts through the year and sent it to the loco crews....a very nice gesture indeed

Going round the loop on the SSE (available twice a day ) doesnt cost £ 80, more like £20 and i think there are a lot of of 'linesiders' who do treat themselves to it...

Interesting that there are those who dont like the long layover... This year we took the Scarborough Flyer intead as there was no Leeds stop on either trip and the flyer had the longer Layover (still only just time for trip round the bay, beach, penny slots and fish and chips and the little beggers still wouldn't nod of on the way back)...

I was actually thinking of the full day trips like the Flyer etc rather than the SSE.

You don't have to do the full day chaps - come after work and do some evening runs on the SSE which offers this option - you'll still spend what you can to support the operation, but you can work - if you have such - or lineside and still do your bit.

I agree with Frank, the evening or morning runs are great if you are limited on time or cash. I like to do a morning York and back and another day do almost the full trip.
I really think we are lucky to get so many days of this operation and with differant Loco's too.
