    As part of the restoration of our Weltrol. We have split one of the Bogies apart, just about totally.
    This to enable removal and a repair / renewal of the spring base plate.
    This has released the 2 nested coil springs.
    On one of these springs is the Marking -
    LNE MAR IBBOTSON 1939
    From this I would infer LNE = LNER
    MAR - No idea
    Ibbotson = Manufacturer?

    1939 = date of manufacture.

    Can anyone suggest an explanation of MAR?

    Not clear from photo, are you sure it's not MFR (manufacturer)?

    I wonder, looking at the photograph, if the last letter in that group is an F rather than an R.

    Not sure what MAF might be though, other than the previous one of Manufaturer.

    Or maybe, two separate stampings.

    LNE. IBBOTSON by the manufacturer

    followed by installation date MAR 1939 by the wagon works

    But a badly planned stamping so had to squeeze the MARch in the only space left?
