If I've missed it somewhere I apologise, but does anyone know what the problem is/was with Tangmere that caused it to be withdrawn from last weekends job?

I'm guessing it's continuing problems with its air pump / compressor, but that's only a guess. It was clear at its last run that it was leaking again & that she was well underpowered compared to what she normally is.

I would guess so, i saw her at St Leonards south (boopeep juct) last Wednesday and she looked to be having problems from the air pump , im not sure but judging by the sound the 47 on the back had to push the train away from the station so i would guess that the problem still hasnt been rectified

Er, how would a poor performing air pump mean that a loco required pushing??

Does anyone know why Tangmere was unavaliable for the Catherdrals Express on 24th May?

The assisting loco could probably only come from the rear and it is providing a working air pump so they can get the brakes off

Yes I am aware that the assisting loco could have provided air but that does not explain the 'pushing' bit!

We'll probably only know from a WCR source. Perhaps the load plus the dead weight of a DL would make it tricky to keep point to point booked times - something that TOCs remain understandably nervous about.

the engine was very late leaving hastings , so i would imagine that the need to provide air, plus the late running would have meant assistance on the climb out to enable it to keep to the timings and to try to regain some time where possible

It was good to see Tangmere through Salisbury again this morning. Certainly sounded a lot better than the last time it came through and running early to.

That was the kiss of death. Tangmere stalled on Filton bank and eventually passed through the Severn Tunnel at 109 mins late. <BJ>

Filton Bank can be nasty. Remember 60009 stalling there back in the 90s. The support crew had to resort to hand sanding before we could get going properly again.

Gawd, just when you need a diesel on the back, there isn't one to be found......

But there was a diesel. It was just around the corner at Bristol Parkway. <BJ>

    Oi. Stop it. LOL!

PS. Do WR machines powered by fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil have shiny brass bits all over them?

I'm told it didn't stall. The TPWS thingy kicked in and stopped the train. Tangy couldn't get going again. So not a full stall where a loco without hindrance just chugs to a stop! LOL!

Perhaps the TPWS kicked in because she was going too fast...;)
