What a fantastic sounding tour, using the holy grail of 2 engineering masterpieces.

Bookin Monday, will travel down to York from Ncle for this one.

Maybe somebody is listening to what we ask for!!!!!

Wonder what the timings will be? Would be great to make Peterborough if not at stupid o'clock?

Before we get excited, this has just be posted by the DPS representative on the deltic yahoo forum :-

This publicity has been done without consultation with or agreement of the DPS. You have got to wonder what goes on when organisations just do this.

Stupid question - but what is the permitted line speed for a preserved Deltic?

I know its early days but any idea for timings...with a rough calculation i'm reckoning 7am ish out of the X and back around 11pm with a couple of hours in Edinburgh - would that sound about right?

Deltics always have been cleared for 100MPH, but on recent tours 55022 has been unable to do this either due to the stock or tail end 47/57 being limited to 90/95

I did a quick search what had been done before and found a Deltic had done KX - Edinburgh in 6.5 hours (with another loco on the back) based on a 8.00am start on Saturday, while Tornado has done 2 Northbound trips of 8 hours( one on Saturday and one on a Thursday).

So based on that 6.30am start, arrive in Edinburgh 1.00pm depart 3.00pm arrive in KX 11.00PM.

Following conversations with Peter Kennan it appears the DPS post has been removed. I understand all is in order and we can all look forward to this trip and even get excited about it again!

So we should get a full wack speed on this one,as if DBS do do it, then if there is a loco on the rear it is likely also to be approved for 100 mph.

I don't imagine a diesel will stay on the rear. I doubt ETH will be needed in the height of summer ( then again, guess we'll see on the timings....perhaps a god early start and late finish might require it ), and a 66/67 will only be needed for pulling the stock in to Kings Cross. After that, a diesel isn't needed until Edinburgh Waverley, where there is usually a 67 in one of the motorail bays as Thunderbird, and two usually end up in Millerhill yard. Plenty of diesels for the shunts!

Certainly hope so, I've always thought it a waste when a Deltic is put on an intinery where it can't hit the ton, why enter a Racehorse in a showjumping contest.

The train loco often does the shunt at Waverley after running round, then taking the stock out to Craigentinny or Millerhill. Though in theory there's no reason the stock couldn't be taken out west and round the Sub to Millerhill or Craigentinny. Run rounds at Waverley never seem to be that quick.

In my opinion, and I'm be being positive,I don't expect a diesel on the back of this one.I don't expect much time at Edinburgh either so possibly no shunt required.Hopefully we will also get a fast path back to the Cross.I'm not against diesel legs when it comes to Deli's.Just assistance when it is not required except for saving money.
Lets keep our fingers crossed that the DPS have 9 ready for the day in question.

Isn't steam barred from the tunnels to the West of Waverley?
