Sadly all too true and Tornado could be substantially improved in that regard if need arose. I could never understand the trainspotter enthusiasm for excessive back pressure.

Maybe something like most of them don't know the mechanics of loco barks?

I really hope we get to see her perform in the snow because the new paint scheme would fit right in. BR Blue, what a good choice.

Here is my full video from yesterday's Cathedrals Express to Bath. I had a great day out and met a number of friends along the way. I arrived home with a huge smile on my face - I hope you enjoy the video.

That was the trip to Exeter I mentioned in my post. A brilliant day out behind 60163 which displayed her impressive power and her breath taking high speed running even with a heavy load in tow (I think it was 13 or 14 load on that run).

Here is my video from today, with 34067, 60163 and 35028 all put into one film. I filmed 34067 at Portchester, Funtley, Chandlers Ford and Hedge End, 60163 at Sonning Cutting and 35028 at Chertsey.

2nd clip of 34067, I rest my case. That thing on the back was pushing for all it's worth. Just there for heating or shunting my backside!
EDIT. Since come across the remark in post #58 of the actual tour thread in What's Going On.

The marker lights on 60163 can show red as well, so they use them as tail lights. However, it does help if they turn off the blinding headlight first!

    Afternoon everyone,

I must say that Tornado looks rather good in BR Express Passenger Blue, some shots of her today at Huntingdon are here:-

Would be nice to see the A1 with 6023.

    Very Best Wishes,
    Bob.

Here is my video from today's Cathedrals Express to Winchester, captured at Micheldever and Shawford (ECS movement). The sun came out at just the right moment at Micheldever, as just 2 mins before, a black cloud had just gone overhead. Fortunately, just as 60163 emerged from the tunnel, the cloud moved and the sun came out once again.

Here's a flash-back to Tornado in BR green: a YouTube clip of her working on the GW mainline. The train is The Cathedrals Express from Ashford to Bristol on Sat 17th Dec 2011. These locations will change substantially during the coming year, as work starts on electrification.

Also from 2011, here's a shot that didn't make it onto the finished disc, because we had another, even better, shot from the same place later in the year. I think it's too good to go unseen, though. On Sept 15th, Tornado climbs along the foot of the North Downs near Gomshall with a Cathedrals Express from Woking to Lincoln.

I'll shut up now and get on with editing 2012... Happy New Year! :)

Later: A kind soul noticed a typo in a caption in the "intro", so I've deleted the original and replaced it, and updated the link, above. Since it affects both clips, I'm about to delete the earlier one, too, and upload a replacement. Oops!

Thanks for that,Steamage. I was out for 60163 at Shere common and remember it well. A really superb morning and well worth getting out of bed for.

There was lots of on train talk on Saturday about Steam Dreams cancelling their first two tours because Tornado's winter maintenance we over running. Is this the case and if so when is she likely to return to action?

Spindizzy - no problems with Tornado's winter maintenance - all running to schedule and nothing to report - all very boring I'm afraid! The reason lies elsewhere and is one I believe has already had plenty of airtime on NatPres so I won't comment further.

Thanks for the update on Tornado and glad to read all is going to plan. Hopefully there will be enough crews and locomotives available on the 9th March to run as advertised. I can't face another Tornado/diesel double header over the Devon banks.
