Personally I'm quite looking forward to the possibility of an A3, A2 & A1 line up all in matching colours.

But wasn't that just as an option for Warner Bros when making the Harry Potter series but they didn't think that a WC was old fashioned looking enough - hence the choice of Olton Hall.

We still don’t know what LSL has planned for Blue Peter’s coat of paint yet do we?
I do think that even though we need to get through this bloody horrible pandemic first, it’s rather nice to think we can plan something like this for the future.

To be honest Keith it’s got me thinking, 35028 has a set of red and black plates, and they do seem to be the traditional colours for nameplates up until the 1980’s but then there’s (and we’re going slightly off topic here folks) photos I’ve seen of some loco’s with light blue or red smoke box number plates. It’s not something I’ve really thought about until a day or so ago, but it’s an interesting question, was it an official thing or just someone at a certain depot wanting to make them stand out?
Modern Traction wise I know 50033 had its nameplates repositioned so it read ‘Glorious Network Southeast’ back in the early 1990’s.
Am I overthinking this or just taking the livery debate to a new level?

The red nameplates on Clan Line are the originals and only used on special occasions. Blue front number plates were used on Scottish Region locos

    Matt,

I'm no expert, but I think the blue smokebox numberplates were a Scottish region thing. Not all locos had them so maybe it was just a particular depot painted them that way. Not sure about the red though.

I knew there’s a set of originals and replicas, that 35028 wears but might be an idea not to publicise them in this way!

I get that that light blue would be a Scotish thing, red could equally apply to the London Midland. As ever we’re drifting from the original subject.
It’s just interesting sometimes to ask the question ‘whys that like that?’

BR went through a red and black phase where nameplate colours were concerned. As for the BBs, I've seen various shades of blue and there were some painted black and at least one painted red at some point.

34027’s had red plates in the past, they’ve gone black since the last overhaul (and crests added) and when it went red it had green Hogwarts Express plates! (Huffllepuff I think;))

The Liveries thread has been a bit thin, with more discussion of Webb compounds than of the supposed subject. Now this Tornado thread is focussing on liveries. Help!

Whether Clan Line carries originals or replicas is an owner's secret I believe but the colour is more specific. Although the arrangement might vary a bit, the loco usually carries black nameplates when on Belmond duties and the original red style when it is on other charters. As for copying the Tornado multi colour dream-coat approach, that's unlikely.

I think someone mentioned a what MNs had been transferred to the LM Region and given red livery. The result would not look good so just be thankful it didn’t happen

Reminds me of a birthday card given to a previous BBLS Chairman by his wife. He was a Bulleid fundamentalist and when he opened he envelope to see a maroon rebuilt, he exploded.

Al whatever it carries it just doesn’t seem to be a good idea to discuss it in public.

Several East Anglian engines got red number and shed plates in BR days. A number of N7s spring to mind.
