The expression "Oh, aaah?" delivered in a disbelieving Fenland accent has just gone through my head. Mind you, do any of us know what state it is in currently at the NVR?

(It is still there, isn't it...?)

On Wednesday the 34081 gang was preparing our container for a move north and the LMS chap said that the grate needed modifications to fit and they’d almost finished the job.
We had much the same problem with our new grate when it was delivered back last year.

Can I make it clear, I'm hoping that those making decisions at Darlington do decide that the risk is too great, and any thought of 60163 going mainline are shelved for now, until the defects that have appeared are sorted out, and the new boiler fitted and tested, But given the performance so far, I wouldn't be the bit surprised if they were to plow on regardless, after all, why was the defective boiler not returned to Germany for rectification, but instead it seems the loco had to be returned to service even with these defects, the promises made at a time when the defects were known, does not exactly feel me with confidence that the decision makers will not risk the engine on the main line, because they are afraid of losing face, but there are just too many risks in tornado working a heavy train at 75 mph,

I only come to this thread as, while I have no interest in the loco itself, I do have a keen interest in the sucess of the project for the sake of all those who work on it and those who fund it. And of course for it keeping open a route for the future of main line steam.

Last time I had time to read a bit here it was testing, at speed I think, on the Great Central Railway with what I thought was a 'new' boiler fitted and not long in advance of it getting back into service.

But reading the above comnents it seems that defects have to be sorted out and a new boiler is to be fitted and tested?

Is there a brief summary somewhere where I can catch up please?

So far there have been 3 goes at the boiler rebuild?
Now apparently there is fun and games with injectors
    Fire grate, Ashpan(rumour)
Previous problems with the cartazzi truck.
And the two new boilers that are definitely being built.

There was an invite for a photcharter with the freight set earlier in the week. So someone at least is hopeful.

    Noooooooooooooo. . . . . .

But I would if it was about plans at the Bluebell to paint all non-Bulleid locos that could be seen in operation in the 1960s in . . . left blank to stop dislikes collapsing the entire UK internet systems . . . . for Rail 200.

    Thank you Tom. ;)

Quite agree with your "left blank section" - I'd love to see a whole fleet painted in pre-BR colours! I'm well past state pensionable age and I can't remember steam on BR, so I think it's about time we stopped pandering to the ever decreasing number of geriatrics who can!

I’m old enough to remember steam on BR but I still enjoy the variety of liveries available for locos built prior to the introduction of BR corporate colours.

Living in Ipswich or Dartford or Truro? Other more appropriate places probably available. Assumption--born 1957, no reliable memoirs pre 1962.
