Leave it as it is!!! It's a great machine, the livery is great and therefore leave it, there are more important things than a livery (hides for cover as a 100 page debate on livery is forthcoming)!!!

Tornado is a great machine as Top Gear showed though it lost it was still only about 10 minutes behind the Jag. A very reliable runner as well. The more publicity it gets the better. I look forward to seeing Tornado down at the Bluebell in August. I love the Apple Green and can't wait for BR Blue. I don't mind waiting longer for the Brunswick green because many locos are in that colour scheme at the moment (Thats not a criticism I do like the Brunswick).

Keep your fingers crossed for BR Blue. A mate of mine worked on Tornado and they are considering going straight to BR Green and missing out BR Blue. Nothing decided yet when I last spoke to him.

That would be a shame if they miss out BR blue. I was talking to one member a few months ago and he gave me the impression that she would be going in to BR blue

Surely if people have donated money on the understanding it will be in BR blue for a bit the trust have an obligation to paint it that colour?

The covenanters who have donated the money have a very good idea of what colour she will be and when, if they were at the annual meeting last month. Anyone can sign up, just go to the web site, get your money out, then you too will have access to the inside info.

Personally I'd be quite happy for her to stay in apple green, but it's really not important in the grand scheme of things.

I cannot help financially with any projects. I can only give time, I do as many turns as possible at the NNR. Personally I just like to see her running, I think livery is, within reason (i.e. not painting her pink!), irrelevant. The fact people can get together and build a locomotive is the amazing part.

I was unaware of the meetings. I merely meant that people who remembered A1's in blue may have donated on the promise of seeing one once again and be let down. I know nothing about plans about the livery.

Not having a go at you personally Will - just those who see fit to moan about projects to which they've contributed nowt - be it cash or blood, sweat and tears. Keep up the good work, that's how I got started, and I didn't have any spare cash back then either.

Not to mention all that TV publicity of this Apple Green engine.. once it's no longer Apple Green, people may be a bit disillusioned or less associating to Tornado than before... Rember Flying Scotsman is an engine sold by it's name not it's colour. Tornado to most people is "that new one" and the recognise it by it's colour and being told it's the New A1...

If they see reams of Green on TV and then a Blue one rolls in.. well they may think it's Thomas the Tornado engine instead !

I haven't seen much of tornado in green yet! A quick 30 second glimpse in February and that is it

Bring her to Norwich before any colour change please

The A1 boys have a very astute marketing team so I'm sure that whatever livery change they decide on it will done to the maximum benefit of the loco.

There's no doubt we are on the verge of a new age.. the celebrity steam engines...
    In 2010 we will have:

    Tornado (the new one),
    Flying Scotsman (the famous one),
Royal Scot (the other famous one)
    70013 (The last one)
    and the enthusiast's favourite... 5x 1968 mainline black fives ! (44871, 44932, 45231, 45305, 45407), and a few others (44767, 45337, 45212)..2010 will be year of the 5 !

I'm sure GWR 175 will ride the wave of publicity and it all add's up to a publicity crazed year next year !

Is Tornado still going on a European adventure in 2010 ?

There's every chance that 45428 will swell that number, too! Just wondering which will be the next Black 5 to traffic after this?

If you include 44806, that's potentially 11 in total. All in BR livery.

Anyone like to take a bet on how long before we get an operational LMS liveried Black 5?

Quoted somewhere that a black five of the overhauled ones is going to be painted in LMS livery...

Yet another publicity masterstroke that keeps the loco in the conscience of the public. Hats off to the A1 people once again.
